fOX cREEK | nEW aND aCCEPTING

((This was Midnight's last post. Not much has happened but there is going to be some action soon. We have a new fox: Echo. ))

Midnight rested his head on his paws and gazed up at the sky. Snowflakes fell softly on his nose, making him sneeze. His large ears twitched from side to side. He could hear something in the distance. "Hmm" he said, walking over to where he thought the sound was coming from. "It's coming from the meadow" he said, breaking into a run.

Echo wandered around by the river, scenting the air every few minutes to see if there was any prey. The snow stung her paws, but she was determined to find prey. She kept her ears pricked as she padded through the snow.

Tawn stalked the rim of the wilderness, keeping her ears tuned to the near silent atmosphere for prey. Her hunting pile had already grown to three rabbits, eight rats, and close to 17 fish. (One was mangled, so she didn't count it as a whole.) At the moment, she was now laying her gaze onto a small fawn, it's slender legs tucked under it's twig-like body. Though it was only a fawn, it would last three days for a meal for one fox. She was wondering how she'd take her kills back to Ashfur without being ambushed by another for the meat. She didn't know how far a fox would go for dinner.

Echo was padding through the site when she caught the faint scent of a fawn, it's smell growing stronger as she got closer. She smiles something else too: the smell of another fox.

Tawn twined through some bracken swiftly, yet maintaining her silent approach. The fawn was maimed, Tawn could sense it from the alarm in it's scent. Tawn settled her haunches lower to the ground, in her pouncing stance, but halted at sensing another presence. Not prey. One of her kind. Tawn frowned and just had to hope it wouldn't take advantage of her hefty hunting pile, because she was well into her kill. She leapt forward, her slender build gliding effortlessly, and she sunk her teeth into the weak deer, lifeless in minutes. She dragged it to the pile.
Tawn then sat on the dewed grass and lay in wait for the other fox to arrive. The soft dusk moonlight rippled on her midnight pelt, the jet black hard to interpret through the concealing darkness, though the tawn streaks on her chest caught the dappling light. She loathed her dark coat, and longed for a deep scarlet or flame orange to take it's place. To be a real fox. She was an outcast anyway though, so what was the point? Tawn sighed, looking out into the wilderness and guarding her kills.

Echo scented that the smell of fawn was masked by the smell of death. She cursed under her breath and continued to follow its trail. There she saw Them, and her healing pile of prey. She has, fighting the urge to take some off the prey.

"I really wouldn't risk it, if I were you." Tawn knowingly smiled, padding to her and lining up her nose with the Other fox's. "Odds are, you won't come out of this clearing with that nice smile of yours, if you are tempted." Tawn friendily exclaimed, sarcastically raising one brow.
Tawn stood in front of her hunts, pleased with them. Ashfur would share them equally between the foxes. He was trustworthy.

"Good thing we're in the same pack. How did you catch all that? Ashfur will be pleased" Echo exclaims.
