I took a seat closer to the front. The teacher nodded as everyone took seats.

[Aven]

I hoped that today wouldn't have an assignment that involved teaming up with another student.

[lilt]

.Ry.

As the teacher spoke, I half listened, half not. My pencil traced various shapes and lines on my paper. In the end, it turned out to be a drawing of Jess, my little sister.

[Aven]

.tori.

I rested my head on my hand and watched the teacher walk about and scrawl things on the whiteboard.

[lilt]

.Ry.

I gazed up at the clock and rested my chin in both of my hands, propping my elbows on the desk.

[Aven]

.tori.

After a long and boring lecture about the solar system, the teacher turns and starts talking about homework. I groan inwardly.

[lilt]

.Ry.

Homework. Oh joy. I sighed quietly and pulled out a clean sheet of paper, jotting down our assignment. Homework on the first day?

[Aven]

.tori.

I wrote notes on the assignment on my hand. I couldn't wait to get out of this prison and to the outdoors.

[lilt]

.Ry.

Just then, the bell rang. I sprang out of my seat and was gone before others could even stand.

[Aven]

.tori.

I stood and slowly gathered my stuff. It was all I could do to keep from bolting out.
