Dominic Lawrence
Dominic slumped himself down on the dirt floor leaning back against a broken tree. He listened to the thundering roars of the bombs out in the distance, the air smelling like sulfur, smoke, and rotting death. Dominic opened up a pocket and took out a small glass bottle filled with Whiskey. He stared out at the field of bodies laying down on the ground.
***
Dominic walked through the bodies, stepping over them, some of them missing limbs, others twitching slightly from their nerves moving. Dominic yanked off the dog-tags from the lifeless bodies from the men who were on his team. He collected the tags and put them away safely. Dominic made his way back to the checkpoint to meet with the rest of his team. At least those who were still alive.
***
Reaching his destination he saw his group in a circle, around a body laying down on the floor. "What's going on here?" Dominic muttered as he pushed his way through. It was one of his team members, the youngest one of them on the ground, bleeding badly and having difficulty breathing.
"His lung burst.." one of the men from the group said. Dominic looked down at the kid giving him a quick glance. "You're not going to make it."
The soldier on the ground was shaking, making small gasps trying to get enough air to speak. "I-I'm-..s-sorry.. I fai-"
"Don't you dare say it" Dominic hissed at him. "You are not a failure. You gave in your life to complete this mission. The mission succeeded didn't?!" Dominic shouted out to the rest of the group. He looked back at him on the ground. "If you're going to die as a soldier you're going to die with some g*d-damn honor. You don't regret a damn thing you hear me?!" Dominic ripped off the young one's dog-tag as he stood. The young soldier on the ground was struggling even harder trying to breathe, tears in his eyes as he stared at the group, then up at the grey sky, watching nothing.
"Why don't we just take him out of his misery already." One of the men said as he pointed his gun at the one on the ground, but Dominic shoved him away.
"We will do nothing! If his fate is to die slowly in pain that's whats going to happen. None of you touch him!" Dominic shouted at them. The rest of the group just stared at him as if he was insane.
"We can't just watch him-" one protested but was shouted at by Dom.
"You don't touch him and that's a damn order!" Dominic had a deathly glare at them all. He then turned to one who was sobbing in the group.
"Why the hell are you crying for?!" Dominic demanded.
The soldier who couldn't stop crying was staring down at floor, his shoulders shaking from crying so hard. He sputtered out his words. "He- He was my brother!" he stated mentioning towards the young one who just gave his last breath.
Dominic just stood there for a second..he brushed past the others heading back to base to leave the war ground. "You all are just a bunch of kids.." He muttered. Their mission was over.
{{sorry for the sad post, it was just on my mind..and i needed to put it down. its kinda skipping the time or it could be meanwhile of what's happening with Dominic. c: }}
