Cameron ran a hand through his hair, pushing himself up. He needed to get back to the house, he thought, to make sure everything was okay. He took off running as fast as he could; the sidewalk seemed clear enough that he could run a few blocks without having to stop. He listened to his footsteps as they hit the concrete, hard and fast.

Autumn took the drink and held it in both hands, warming them. It was something he had always done, something Basil had teased him for. "What? No, no. I'll just head to the laundromat before I go home; I think I have a few quarters." The apartment complex he lived in didn't have a laundry room, so he was used to keeping a quarters on him, and he usually was pretty good about it.

"What?" Autumn squeaked, followed by a sip from the cup. "We're going now?" He reached into his jacket pocket and wiggled his fingers. Jingle. Yup, he had quarters. "You don't have to go; you probably have better things to do." Autumn always automatically assumed that everyone else had just as much on his plate as he did. What he didn't realize was that most people his age had few responsibilities.

Autumn stumbled when his hand was tugged on. This was foreign to him; he hardly ever had the chance to "hang out" with members of his peer group. That was why his mother had forced him to go to that party he had ditched. Even in such situations, he was always the awkward kid on the edge of the group. "A-Are you positive?' He squealed. "Laundromats are so boring." Actually, Autumn didn't have an opinion of laundromats. They were just one of those things; he'd been using them his whole life, except for a couple of times when Basil let him use the laundry room in his parents' boarding house.
