I balanced all, brought all to mind, the years to come seemed waste of breath, a waste of breath the years behind, in balance with this life, this death.

Damien sighed in exasperation, the girl who he now knew as Maria was still in front of him and desperatley trying to break his defense, didn't she know it was rude to be nosy, didn't her mother teach her never to talk to strangers? She asked him his name and he suddenly felt trapped, What do I tell her? He asked himself "Just keep quiet" his head yelled back. He didn't want to be rude, it wasn't Damiens style. He just wanted people to leave him alone but this once he figured he could let his guard down "Damien" there he said it, forcebly but he did. His first name that's all nothing more nothing less. God he was an idiot now she would be even more curious Why can't I keep my mouth shut? he thought. The line moved and he stepped up wondering if she would just leave, probably not but hey he could dream couldn't he?
