Shane had woken up, and was seemingly gazing at his folded hands on his lap. He turned his head at a faint sound, cloudy eyes searching in the darkness. "H-hello...?" He croaked, blank eyes looking about. "Who's there?" He squinted in the darkness, attempting to see.

"What do you mean? I'm right here." The nurse tapped Reed's shoulder and whispered in his ear, "His optic nerves were damaged. But what's important is, he's alive." Reed stared at her in horror, then at Shane, running to his bed and promptly tripping over his own feet. "I'm fine." he murmured, waving away help from the woman. "Shane, it's Reed, are you okay?" he asked worriedly.

Shane jumped at the contact but softened at Reed's voice. "Reed? Where are you?" He lifted his hands to Reed's cheeks and held his face, pulling it close. "Where are you? Can you turn on the lights? Reed, please, I'm scared and it hurts...." He whimpered, sightless eyes filling with tears.

Reed's hand reached up to hold Shane's against his cheeks. A single tear traced a shining track down his face, "Shane, I'm right here. Right here, baby. Do you remember anything? The crash?" he asked sadly, voice cracking on the last syllable. Why did he have to love Shane? All he cause him was pain and sorrow. This was all his fault,

"Reed, I want to see you, Reed, it hurts, Reed, please make it stop, Reed..." Shane sobbed, leaning his forehead into Reed's chest. His head pounded and his breath came in choked gasps as he wept.

Reed's arms draped themselves gently around Shane's neck, keeping his head close to hi chest. "Hush, baby. I'm here," he whispered sadly, his head resting gently atop Shane's, "I wish I could help, hon. I really wish I could." he looked at the nurse and she gestured to a button with a label just below it, Morphine.

Shane lifted his sightless hazel eyes, and felt along Reed's face until he found his cheek. "Reed...? Please don't..go..." He mumbled, going limp as the morphine kicked in. He giggled slightly, playing with his fingers.

Reed looked sadly at Shane's lifeless, blank hazel eyes. "I'll never leave you, Shane. I'll always be here." he whispered, hands clutching Shane's desperately.
