Lisa woke up very early in the morning. The sky had turned a light shade of grey. The sun did’t show yet. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes she sat up quietly. A quick survey of her surroundings reminded her of the nightmare they were still living in. She frowned at the sight of the strange kids and tried to recall last nights event. But everything was blurred and unreal. It was the same ever since the lights went out that day. Lisa didn’t mind. That meant she didn’t have to face what had happened so far and she wanted to stay in her little bubble of numbness.
The sound of a single bird singing its lonely song distracted her. So sweet and yet so sad. A single tear trickled down her face. Lisa got up with her violin case in her arms. She watched Gabriel’s steady breathing for a few seconds and decided not to disturb him.
Gabriel woke up with a start sitting bolt upright. He felt disoriented and looked around for his sister frantically. As soon as he heard the violin music Gabriel relaxed. Looking over his shoulder he saw Lisa standing only a few feet away facing the dawning sun. The tune she played was slow and sad. Gabriel sighed and looked at where the others laid. He wondered if Wren had survived the night.
