Imaginary Lines (Dystopia Roleplay, Accepting)

In 2028, to be different is to be wrong. To be alien. To be criminal.

Be it you stand on the side of the resistance, be it your father died on the wrong side of the trenches. Or you listen to the wrong music, wear the wrong clothes, or learn to love the rain.
They will find you, they will try you, and they will persecute you to the fullest extent of the law.
The laws they made, they enforce, but would never live by.

Set in a wartorn futuristic america, where things like music, film, expression, religion and similar feelings are banned. Love is a outside concept, and frowned upon. The government in power -a select group of primarily men, led by one man, now considered a monarchy- is oppressive in nature. Because masses cannot be effectively controlled while divided, they have begun building camps to house those on the side of the rebellion. Initially, this was meant simply to contain them- with all borders closed and all ties with the united nations cut, it was simply to keep anyone from contacting the outside world. And unexpected side-effect, however, was how these isolated groups of up to five thousand would establish themselves. Initially, gang violence was a major problem- they reacted in a similar manner as refugees did when introduced to camps- they split up, and fought over their respective differences. But, over time, dust settled and they all came together on the common ground they had- supporters of the corrupt government were quickly outed and 'handled', and when they began organizing their own government troops set to manage them were forced to withdraw until they were simply holding borders. With their own society build and stabilizing, the remaining citizens live a deprived life. Smuggling goods and whatnot, agriculture is the foundation of much as is simplicity. The arts are scarce, but music- the foundation of all things good- is hugely important and mass festivals are known both as a way to raise spirits and create fear within those holding the borders.

Positions available:

Citizen- 13-23

Average citizen of the camp, you have private forms of employment, be it smuggling, working in the 'district', farming, or otherwise.

Citizen Officer- 16-18 (trainee) 18-23 (official)

You are a citizen-appointed enforcer of the code of conduct. You may take your job seriously or use it to manipulate- be it either way, you hold rank.

Border Guard- 18-23

You are employed by the government. You may not agree, but you are. You have a choice- enforce their rules and follow their beliefs, or rebel and help get media, supplies and the like in and out of the camps.

Observer- 16-23

You have been sent in by the government to observe and document life within the camp to better understand how to keep the civilization contained and unable to fully rebel. If you are found to be an observer within the ranks, you will be faced with consequences.

Type of citizen:

Lifelong: Born within the camp. (History would include brief background on how family got into the camp)
Inducted: Caught and deposited in the camp by officials. (History would include brief background on how citizen got into the camp)

Code of Conduct:

All citizens must be inside before 11PM
Theft or destruction of property is prohibited
Everyone, regardless to gender, race or sexuality is entitled to their rights. To work, live, and consent.
All mind altering substances are controlled
The harming of anyone is forbidden, doing so in any way shape or form will be treated as treason is- public trial, and depending on charges will have a minimum of work compensation to the family/families effected or expulsion from civil society

Feel free to add on to it or get creative with fond/coding, but please do not remove anything. If you do not want to post a sample paragraph (understandable) please message it to me.

You DO NOT have to commit an offense to get into the camp- you could be falsely accused, or sent in to observe. See "position" for more information on observers.

While not required by any means, relations posts are encouraged. Typically I don't see the point, but for this it is important as the framework of the civilization is trust.

Please message me if you have any questions or would like to reserve a specific character type, as I will be trying to keep ratios appropriate in terms of accepting citizens/guards/observers/etc. Thank you.

Basics

Date of Birth (& age): January 9th, 21
Gender: Female
Language: English, some Spanish
Sexuality: Heteroflexible

Iris J. Smith
Freedom is just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin', don't mean nothin' honey if it ain't free.
No, no
Physical Description

Height: 5'7
Hair: Auburn
Eyes: Grey/blue
Physical Description: Iris is relatively fit in more of a rugged
I-can-win-a-barfight sort of way than a sporty way,
and is the kind of gangly that make her inherent
curvyness go somewhat unnoticed. She is a big fan
of tattoos; and has two goldfish drawn in a
traditional style mirroring each other just
below her collarbones. Neither were obtained
legally, but they are there now and can't really
go anywhere.

Typical Clothing: Iris loves jeans, and tie-dye, and
anything flowy or baggy. tunics or tank tops
are the usual, paired with jeans and Doc Martins.
With that said, silk scarves, handkerchiefs and other
flowy bits of fabric have become an easy favorite of
hers, usually reserved for the festivals, as it isn't
uncommon for people to dress up.

Personality/Attributes

Personality/Attitude: Iris can be very, very stubborn. She is prideful; and while she can be as humble as a saint she doesn't get over things well and can hold a grudge like no other. She’s strong, and doesn’t let people down, but has pretty severe moodswings and when they hit, they hit. She is nowhere near stable; but she has gotten very good at hiding it over the years, or covering it up with amusement or joy. She is a bit of a delinquent, and even with the innocence she can't seem to shake will get into all sorts of trouble. She can be overly compassionate, and will help anything or anyone. She has gotten a bad rap for this, as when a guard was found on the wrong side of the fence and beaten she jumped to defend him, which resulted to rumors and speculation that they were potentially lovers that send her spiraling in rank.
Favourites/Likes: Iris loves music, fast cars, parties and good vibes. She's a pretty typical hippie airhead on the outside, but it goes well beyond that for her. She has a close relationship with outright freedom and what it entails, and will take a fancy to anything that gives her liberation. Part of the reason the world hasn't been so kind to her.
Most Hated/Dislikes: Iris has strong opinions regarding government, and doesn't like authority much. Be it her fathers influence over her childhood, as a member of said government, or some other outside force, she just doesn't like it. She balks at control, and its usually just a struggle to understand the point of all of it.
Fears: Never being good enough, or selling herself out. Conforming.
Hobbies/Interests: Music.
Position: Citizen
Type: Inducted
Positive traits: Resourceful, smart, quick-witted, imaginative, independent.
Negative traits: Anxious, stubborn, oppositional, blunt, antisocial.
History: Iris was taken in to custody along with several other people on several charges- Solicitation (they were playing music for change as transients), posession (of multiple things) as well as several minor offences at 15, and quickly relocated to a camp.
She quickly took hold there, especially with the musical inclination and her complete lack of morals. She is quick to try and form relationships with guards, observers or anyone else linked to the outside world, and will defend them in exchange for many things, but only if she is convinced they are dedicated to her side of things, and loyal.
