looking towards the side of the classroom, kino spotted the piano that he spent hours of his life practicing away on. during lunch, he always found himself in the room, his music teacher always finding new sheet music for him to occupy himself with. in all honesty, he had been playing piano before he even learned how to read so there weren't many new things he learned in this highschool course but he still loved the class anyways. his teacher never failed to give him tips and challenge him with certain articulations so all in all, simply being in the music room alone made him feel better.
looking back towards joshua, he was surprised to find the usually quiet teen speaking up and to him in particular. kino's timid smile returned, perking up slightly at the invitation at a conversation. "yeah, kino" he repeated, his voice quieter than he meant it to, "joshua right?" he added. for some reason unknown to him, kino felt a slight surge of happiness in his chest at the fact that joshua had remembered his name at all. kino didn't think of himself as someone who was particularly memorable so he considered this a win. "you play any instruments?" he asked curiously, his own eyes sliding back towards the piano he had been looking at earlier. in his house, all he owned was a keyboard and playing a keyboard compared palely against playing an actual piano. the only chance he got out of school to play a proper piano was whenever he went to his grandparents house and that didn't happen frequently. his grandmother had even offered to have someone move the grand piano they owned in his own house but his father refused, kino silently dying inside when he found out. unintentionally wringing his hands together, kino couldn't help but wish he could play the instrument at this moment, being able to get lost in his music being as efficient as mediating for him.

"ooo it appears i have influenced you too poorly ms. tyler" he teased, chuckling at her eagerness to ditch , holly not even flinching at the idea. "i can't believe you're so willing to ditch, tsk tsk," he continued, shaking his head as if he was disappointed before letting his typical smile slip onto his face again. he wasn't one to ditch frequently thought he had definitely found himself escaping school once or twice. sometimes, he was in a beyond foul mood and he had to take a day off and he would wander back home during lunch or to a nearby park. evan certainly knew that ditching too many times would ruin his academic career so he knew when to pick his battles. the first day of school he wasn't particularly worried about getting into trouble or missing out on anything important so would be lying if he didn't admit he was debating it.
"you did what?" he asked, eyes widening and his fake disapproval of her decisions disappearing, "no way!" pausing in their walking, evan stood with his face frozen in an expression of complete surprise. "you gotta let me pay you back," he insisted, immediately fishing out his wallet from his back pocket. already expecting the rebuttal he contained, "if you won't let me then im buying us all the snacks and paying for any an all other expenses made," he said firmly, crossing his arms over his chest, waiting for her to make a decision. "ok but also im super stoked so thank you" he added in quietly, a small smile spreading across his face as excitement returned.

woofersonce the latter had spoke, he nodded his head. what he wasn't expecting was for him to know what his name was. or, his english name, anyway. joshua nodded his head, "that would be me," he told him, scratching the back of his neck nervously, but then brushed a hand through his hair. he brushed the light brown strands to the side, and dropped his hand in his lap, tugging at his sleeve once again.
wooferskino's nervousness seemed to have slowly begun to fade away, and for that, joshua was grateful. at least he was doing something to help out with it. if anything, he was kind of helping himself out. he was still a little nervous-- who wouldn't be? --but at least taking his mind off of it was helping a little bit. joshua sat up straight, crossing his right leg over his left, before leaning back slightly, head lifting slightly at his question.
woofershe played instruments, yeah, but he wasn't particularly good at them. he wasn't anywhere near as good as his brother when it came to the guitar, nor was he a master at the piano. he was, however, the only one in the household to have any woodwind experience. he practiced the oboe in his free time, but even so he wouldn't even call himself experienced. it was just something he did when he was bored, and didn't want to sit and do nothing. it was more of a time filler to him. it wasn't his passion, playing oboe i mean. he was more into using his voice, whether it be for the use of his vocals or rapping. he preferred to use his voice over playing an instrument, to put it simply, the reason behind that being he didn't think he'd get very far if he pursued a career using the oboe.
woofersshrugging his shoulders, joshua sat up a little straighter. "oboe," he told kino, scratching his neck slightly, "but that's just in case all else fails," he looked up at him, head nodding gently. "what about you?"

Gripping onto the straps of his flimsy red backpack as if his entire life depended on the stability it provided, William began his journey into the cursed building that held far too many memories; both good and bad. Good, in the sense that he was able to find one true friend, and bad in every other way. He couldn't help but feel his anxiety creeping up through his spine, his fears all colliding as those familiar doors opened for him- this place having never been too kind to a kid like him. His eyes on the ground, refusing to face any of his peers, Will walked at a fast pace to the location of his locker. Reaching his destination, he took his backpack off his back and emptied its contents into their new home, taking his phone out in the process. Half expecting no notifications, Will was pleasantly surprised (and relieved) to find a message from Kino. That boy was the only reason he found school bearable.
Opening his text chat with the contact Piano Man, a Billy Joel reference that brought Will quite a large amount of amusement, the lanky boy smiled a little at the received message and began to type a response "Just got here. On my way now- I'll meet you there".
Closing up the metal door to his locker, placing his backpack on his back and adjusting the straps, Will began to walk towards the music room. He was lucky enough to have the same first period class with Kino, and lucky that it was music class; his favorite subject, by far. William was definitely not academically inclined, but he sure could sing.
Arriving a few moments later, a small line of sweat forming across his forehead in nervousness, Will took a deep breath in before peaking through the small window on the door. It looked like only a few people were inside, so he was lucky; but, upon further glance, Will quickly noticed that Kino was not alone. There his best friend was, conversing with some kid, and he seemed to be...glowing. Taking this moment in, Will stood in thought before deciding to turn himself around, walking in the same direction he just came. Kino was having fun, and seemed genuinely happy- who was he to interrupt whatever was happening? Digging his phone out from his back pocket, Will simultaneously walked and texted, perhaps a bad choice for someone as clumsy and graceless as him- "Nevermind...I'm going to go to the practice room and warm up a bit. See you in class, K"
True to his word, the scrawny male walked into the practice room a few doors down from the music classroom, setting his bookbag down and walking towards the front where an acoustic guitar and grand piano could be found. Inept with the formality of the keys, Will very obviously dodged the sleek piano and made his way to the guitar, picking it up gently and tuning it. There was no point in sulking over his newfound loneliness; he may as well put his voice to use.

letting his brown eyes slide back to joshua, he couldn't help but notice how the other continuously kept tugging at the sleeve of his shirt. kino could only assume that he was doing so subconsciously, more than likely used to doing so as to hide the dot that reminded all of them that they were paired to someone, whether they liked it or not. kino couldn't help but glance down at his own cupped hands, knowing that his tiny little blue-green dot sat on his inner right wrist, never letting him forget that he was destined to fall in love with someone he didn't know - even then, it could be someone he did know. curiosity was always something that got kino in trouble and the fact that one of his lives biggest mystery was probably going to be something unknown for a while drove him a little bit crazy. feeling a buzz in his pocket, kino momentarily broke out of his trance as he fished his phone out of his pocket. for a moment, he felt excitement rush through him as his best friend told him he was going to be meeting him in a few. he had of course seen will over the summer but he was also excited to see him in class. as kino was about to deposit his phone back into his pocket, as to not be rude, he was surprised to get another notification, this one telling him that will, was in fact, not coming. furrowing his eyebrows, kino made a mental note to ask him about that as he finally put his phone away.
rubbing at his wrist, kino looked up with a faint smile on his lips, "the oboe huh?" he echoed, head tipping to the side as he tried to picture the relatively serious joshua playing an oboe. kino wasn't sure what about the idea was interesting but he was intrigued. "if all else fails? we're you gonna persue a career in the oboe as a backup?" he asked in an amused tone, his smile growing into one that reflected the bubbly way he was feeling inside at the idea of joshua, who whether intentionally or not presented in a serious manner, dedicating himself to a career in oboe. pushing away the thought, kino's smile changed from that of an amused one to one of elation, his eyes jumping back to the piano. "i play the piano," he answered, "i have since i was like five" he said happily. "i also kinda sing but piano's what i really like."

woofersthe male followed kino's gaze towards the piano, only to peal it away as soon as kino had shifted and pulled his phone from his back pocket. his eyes then shifted down towards his hand, tugging the sleeve until it was half way over his palm. he began to question why it was that he didn't simply over it with foundation this morning, but soon shrugged off the thought with a soft, inaudible sigh. if anything, he was just going to have to find felix later in the day and see if he happened to have any on him. while that may not be the case, he could just steal his step-brother's jacket in order to cover his hands up far more easily than his own, barely over-sized hoodie. by now, it seemed like that's what joshua needed half way through the day since he had gotten his dot, and got closer to felix.
woofersthough, looking back at the first time he asked felix for foundation or concealer or something he should have clarified it more when he asked. felix's eyes had widened, and joshua couldn't even stop him before he began to inspect his neck and collar bones. though, he caught himself as quickly as he could, and jabbed his finger right towards the sea green dot that was now prominent on his inner wrist. as embarrassing as that single moment was, the two would look back at it and laugh. and, there were even times when joshua wouldn't say why he needed the foundation (though it was always for his dot, and felix knew that) his older step-brother would joke, and prod him about it throughout the day.
woofershe lifted his head towards kino when he began to speak, chuckling at his response to what he had previously said. "duh, i'm not athletic or into anything else that i could possibly go into, so, therefore, pursuing a career with the oboe as a backup, just in case," he chuckled softly, folding his arms over his chest with an amused gleam in his eyes.
wooferswhen kino looked back at the piano and replied, joshua nodded his head. that would really explain why it was he kept looking at it. to say the least, he was a little surprised about that-- even though it was obvious in the beginning --but nodded anyway, "the piano, i couldn't blame you," he offered as he looked back up at him, nodding his head with a slight pout on his lips, though the corners were turned upwards, "ah, singing. if you consider vocal cords an instrument, i play that, too." he joked, shaking his head in spite of himself as he turned his head towards the ground.
woofersyou're such an idiot, joshua, i swear, he shook his head again and released a sigh, lips curled up in a closed smile as he looked up at the piano.
