as her uber pulled up, mavis felt her hands tremble at her sides. her voice wavered through the short and random spurts of conversation that her driver insisted on having during the ride. the idea of the reunion was a bittersweet taste in her mouth. seeing old friends from high school sounded like a great time, and she was sure she'd recognize many faces who'd attended her infamous parties. still, seeing those same friends was daunting-- they probably had no idea how easily her life had fallen headfirst into the waste bin. when the car turned a corner to the camp's lot, her heart was thumping so quickly that it almost hurt.

seeing smiling faces and hearing laughter in the distance caused her to freeze; her uber was thanking her and she could barely muster a "thanks" back as she got out of the car almost robotically, slinging her backpack on one shoulder and rounding to the trunk to grab her suitcase. the fact that she was stuck at the reunion set in as she heard the engine's purr as it crept off. for months, she'd promised herself a mantra: "after the reunion will come improvement." but the urge to beg that same uber to come back and drop her off anywhere but here was almost overwhelming.

nevertheless, she retrieved her key to the cabin and decided she'd better just head there before she felt the need to escape off to the nearby lake and never talk to anyone again. dramatic, yes, but it seemed almost better than having her old friends realize her failures. no matter how much of a facade she put up, no one could deny how skinny she looked, or how dark the bags under her eyes were getting. thankfully, upon her arrival, the cabin was empty. quiet. thank god for that. she chose one of the smaller rooms, leaving the door cracked as she hoisted her suitcase onto the bed and set her backpack alongside it. she turned up some tunes on spotify and hummed along to distract herself from the silence of the place-- however comforting it was, it reminded her that she would be meeting others soon, and that it wasn't going to last.

breathe, calvin, it is just two weeks. yes, just two weeks of seeing people whom he hasn’t seen for ten whole years. in all honesty, he didn’t even know why he agreed to go to this silly reunion, perhaps it was chester who convinced him? yes, that sounds about right. to make it clear, he doesn’t exactly mind seeing some of his old classmates, he minds seeing those whom he didn’t get along with very well or, in other words, he used to get into fights with. there’s no need to worry, he won’t go out of his way to start new fights, but he might end up rubbing some salt into old wounds. you see, calvin is too stubborn to apologise, especially when he is convinced that he is in the right.

thankfully, calvin had one last shift at the shelter before the start of his two week break. though, perhaps, that was a bad thing as he had to take a taxi towards the campsite. whatever, it was still better than driving himself there - calvin behind the wheel is never a good idea. his eyes are fixated on his phone as he types a text to chester. ’apparently i’m very close to the campsite, hope you got there safe, ❤️’ he quickly presses send before looking back up at the driver. with a sheepish smile, calvin once again asks: “are we there yet?”

Taking his luggage to the reception building, he got his key (and sneaked a look at the list to check who was also in the same cabin as he was, though he was only really looking for Calvin's name), then he walked over to the cabins, finding his relatively quickly. Chester walked up to the door, and pushed it open, hearing the faint sound of music playing. So he was not the first to arrive, evidently, but he didn't mind. He walked through the cabin, picking one of the slightly larger rooms, and setting his bags down on one side of the bed. He could start unpacking, but he really didn't want to just yet. But those unpacked bags would annoy him. So, he began to unpack, humming under his breath, until his text-tone rang out, and he glanced at his phone, and smiled to see that it was Calvin.

He would have liked to have been able to drive up with him, but then he wondered if it would seem odd to the others if they saw them arrive together. Chester thought over it for a few moments, then he wrote out a reply: 'Yayyy! I'm already here, I'm so excited. Someone's already arrived in' he paused, wondering if he should give away the fact that they were going to be sharing a cabin, 'my cabin - I can hear their music playing. See you really soon! 💖 then he pressed send, and went back to unpacking.

Getting slightly bored, Blaise figured that they likely wouldn't be getting the chance to talk to anyone just yet - it seemed that they were more in a rush to find their cabin. They weren't concerned, though - they'd just start with whoever was in their cabin.
Starting to walk towards the cabins, Blaise glanced around at all of them, the feeling that there was a bit more life in the area compared to earlier, where they had been one of the first to arrive, was apparent. They walked up to their cabin - Cabin 2 - and pushed the door open. They were not the first to arrive at the cabin, just as they expected. But, just in case, and hopefully as a prompt for whoever was around to come out and talk, they called out, "Anyone else here?" and they walked to one of the bedrooms to set their luggage down. They could wait to unpack it. For now, they were more looking forward to seeing their former classmates.

chere mesquita | they/them | 29 | the company starter | location; cabin 2 | tagging; hunter
chere took a deep breath, standing outside a cabin with a large number two on it. a high school reunion didn't seem like their sort of thing, but right now, chere needed the escape. with their company slowly falling apart and various court dates sprinkled in just to make things that much more difficult, a vacation could be exactly what was needed. they tapped their nails on the plastic handle of their large suitcase, staring up at the cabin for a moment before sighing and finally making their way inside.
once inside, chere decided that their first order of business was to find an empty room and set their things down. their suitcase was heavy, and chere had no interest in carrying it around. besides, it the dark purple clashed with their outfit. chere went to the first room they saw, pulling the door open and taking one step inside before gasping and jumping about ten feet in the air. lost in their own thoughts, they hadn't noticed a man laying on the bed, and while chere couldn't make out exactly who he was at the moment, they still felt bad for interrupting. turning a shade of red that would put a crayon to shame, chere took a few steps back towards the door. "i am so sorry, i didn't realise anyone was already in here and i wasn't paying attention at all..."

calvin is positive that his driver hates him. honestly, it would be a surprise if he didn’t because he had been annoying the poor man since they left. clearly, mr. monroe is not the type of person to bring on a long trip. in his defence, calvin had been seating down for almost 3 hours and his legs were aching for some movement. thank god they’re close to the campsite. plus, he has chester - or, as calvin’s phone would suggest, chessy - to keep him company, even if it’s only through text.

my cabin? what kind of nonsense is this? you’d be a fool to believe that calvin won’t find a way inside of chester’s room. it’s not like there’s much people can do. he’s a grown man, not a child, he doesn’t need to follow such stupid rules. ’very funny, chester. what are they going to do if i come spend the night with you? are they going to kick me out?’ he sure hopes the answer is no. not like he would go without causing a scene. there’s only so much calvin can take before his rebellious roots come out. ’i’m here ❤️’

surprise, surprise, walking is slightly uncomfortable. ugh, they could have went to a dinner and had a normal reunion, but no, rosewood high had to be extra and make them go to some camp miles away from their home. whatever, it’s too late to go back. calvin makes his way to what seems to be the reception building in order to check in. such interesting activities, don’t you agree? his eyes scan the list to see what his cabin is. cabin 3. and chester is there too. ”what am i going to do with him? calvin chuckles to himself as he takes his key and walks towards cabin 3. ’i’m walking to OUR cabin. also, you’re silly’ the message is sent as he approaches the door to the cabin. ”chess?” calvin’s voice echoes over the music coming from one of the rooms.

Once the next text from Calvin came through, Chester had almost finished unpacking, everything having its own place, and the empty cases stored under the bed. He'd left enough room to allow for another person's luggae - Calvin's, of course - but he knew that, if need be, there was always another room to store stuff in. He laughed gently as he read the text, and he wrote back: 'I'd like to see them try. 💖' and he sent the message, figuring that Calvin would find out that they were sharing a cabin anyway. He did get, though he wouldn't admit it to anyone else, a little bit giddy when he saw that Calvin messaged to say that he'd now arrived. He decided not to wait for him outside the cabin - he still had a bit of unpacking left to do anyway, and he was certainly not leaving it. Priorities.

Chester couldn't help but smile broadly to himself as he finished up, and he waited for any sort of telltale sign that Calvin was now in the cabin. Indeed, when he read the message that Calvin now evidently knew that they were in the same cabin, he sent back: 'I don't know what you mean 😋.

He had to take a deep breath when he heard Calvin call out for him, feeling a bit like he was just about to go on a first date. Then, Chester opened his door, and poked his head around into the corridor, and spotted Calvin. "I'm here!" he grinned.

Just as they'd moved back towards the door of their bedroom, they heard someone else was in the cabin - and had evidently entered someone else's room. Looking for the source, they soon found Chere and Hunter - the former having walked into the latter's room. "Hello, Chere. Hunter." Blaise greeted, quietly.

Piper Fairhill
    🐾 29
    🐾 Female
    🐾 Valedictorian
    🐾 @Open
    🐾 Arriving
"And did you call Cinnamon's owner, Mrs. Tressel, to tell her to give her one pill twice a day and that yes, the cat does need to wear the silly collar until the wound heals completely?" The woman had navy blue headphones in while her hands fluttered through her notebook looking up notes. The notebook was a worn hard leather spiral bound inch wide tome of handwritten post-its, case notes, and scheduled and rescheduled appointments. It was once a pristine calendar but had quickly succumbed to the hard-working woman's demands; extra pages had been stapled in, ripped bits taped, and the edges worn smooth from being constantly handled. "Oh, and Jenny - Please get an update on that chicken withholding an egg, if it doesn't come out soon..."
"Yes, I will. Doc P - You're supposed to be on vacation. I'll email you the updates and anything else of real importance, but you should enjoy your time away and try to relax. You're not missing anything you haven't seen before." With a last round of reassurances and goodbyes, the phone call ended; silence echoed through the earbuds giving the brunette pause. Less than thirty seconds of noiselessness and an audiobook was on with the narrator's clipped monotone explaining the intricacies of a snakes lower digestive tract. Her restless fingers immediately flipped to a spare bit of scrap paper and began doodling the described anatomy.
Piper yawned for the fourth time in a row when she glanced up from the backlogged emails she'd been deleting. The scenery outside the car windows had changed from claustrophobic city to endless forest without her knowing; the sun had also risen a lot higher in the sky which explained a bit of why her stomach was rumbling uncomfortably - she hadn't eaten since the evening before her plane ride. An emergency surgery had made her have to reschedule the special dinner with her fiance so they'd grabbed a pizza to go, which she'd barely touched due to last minute packing. The driver slowed the vehicle as the road switched abruptly from crumbling tar to grated gravel. A warning of a five minute arrival time was given so she could repack her notebook and papers. She grabbed her black blazer off the seat next to her and slid it back on in the cramped space. She was dressed in dark-wash jeans with dark leather heeled boots and a dark magenta button down blouse. Piper had almost packed a suitcase full of scrubs and work jeans but her wonderful fiance stopped her just in time and helped her repack with vacation items.
With the sound of spraying gravel in the distance, Piper stared at the oasis before her - the forest kept barely at bay with a large lawn of lush green grass sprawling between rustic buildings, a lake glistening in the sun at the far back of her view. The breeze a gentle caress as it toyed with her hair. Honestly, for about two seconds she took in the setting admiring the beauty before her mind started running through the logistics - was there WiFi and what's the password, was there decent cell service, what was the food situation.
Dragging her plain black carry-on sized luggage behind her, Piper made her way towards what she could only assume as the main building - or was it called a lodge? She could never remember the correct terminology used in regards to camps or camping or really anything related to lake-side vacationing. She stepped through the large wooden door and stepped into some sort of hallway area with a giant room opening off of one side with the sounds of a commercial kitchen running. She hoped someone would come to her aid soon, otherwise she'd just call a car and head back to her routine life and the chaos of the clinic.
