four kingdoms lay claim upon the country alder.

frost. ash. timber. stream.

war has broken out among the four kingdoms, utterly destroying their beautiful land,
murdering their innocent people. this war is a result of distrust and betrayal among
each kingdom's royals. the people of each rule have grown too invested, ransacking
homes and killing children of their enemies. others are turning their backs to their
homes, preferring the life of a refugee than a life of association with such careless
rulers. the kings and queens of each kingdom realize their mistakes, but cannot turn
back time. so, they look to the future generations. each of the rulers have agreed to
send their children off to a safe house together, where they shall all continue their
schooling and royal education together. they hope their children will learn much
more than themselves, that they will learn before it's too late.

the eldest of the four kingdoms, but perhaps the weakest. the kingdom
of frost has slowly lost power over the years, its queen having fallen ill
five years ago, her death sudden and recent in the midst of this warfare.
the royals of this family, proudly beholding the last name pagonia, are
commended for their strength and calm demeanor. their years of power
have made them a proud people, but they are known for giving the "cold
shoulder" (pun intended) to change or negotiations with other royal families.
their family history is vast and noble. after the queen's recent death, the
king is obviously scrambling to keep a hold on his people. their are two twin
heirs to the throne, the first of which to marry destined to ascend the throne.

though twins, the brothers are incredibly different. one is poised and proper,
the other much too quiet. one seems like a perfect diplomat, the other a
perfect shadow. however, neither exactly want to take the throne.

the kingdom of ash currently holds the most power, but it has been vested
through secret deception, manipulation, and rumored bloodshed. still, this
kingdom is feared for its abilities, but respected. to its own people, ash is
a caregiver, providing numerous community programs and its king and queen
forming direct relations with their people. the kingdom of ash prides itself
on keeping a noble, intimidating, pristine reputation. the kingdom claims it
will cause no harm unless you wrong them. all outside of ash seek a weak spot
in the kingdom's armor, but have not found one in centuries. they behold the
last name flamouria.

however, their daughters might just be that weak link. the eldest of the two,
who is known as a skillful speaker and perfect public figure, has landed herself
pregnant, unbeknownst to her parents or anyone, with the son of frost. the
younger of the two has also thrown herself into trouble, facing secret threats
from her parents to cut her off if she does not behave. all of this is secret...
for now, at least.

the kingdom of timber once held a noble reputation, known for good relations
with each of the kingdoms. this family, under the last name dasos, has
lost the respect of their neighbors and those in their kingdom in the last two
decades, but we'll get to that reason later. even before the war, their people
has been revolting for years. in the present, the royal family of timber is
famed for their short fuses and knack for getting into trouble. due to this,
the other kingdoms have cut off communication with them for about two
years now, only upsetting the royals further. they were the least in favor of
sending their children to this new schooling, but figured it was easier than
fighting it.

they have two children, a son and a daughter. the son, the eldest, is rumored
to have secret relations with the eldest daughter of the kingdom of ash, angering
both his parents and every other kingdom. the younger daughter is rumored to
have murdered a duke and duchess in the kingdom of ice.

the kingdom of timber once held a noble reputation, known for good relations
they are attempted peace-keepers, but are also seen to be as slimy as a fish.
the kingdom of stream has a messy history, with its royals previously having
seized power unfairly and torturing people. however, that was the generation
prior to the current king and queen, who have vowed to make reforms. so far,
they have been successful, but other kingdoms are unwilling to acknowledge
their efforts. they have taken on a new last name, okeanos. this family is
actually quite mild-mannered and non-confrontational, though many refuse
to see it.

they have a princess and a younger prince. the princess, as hard as she tries
to be a good heir, always manages to say the wrong things in front of the
press, and is known for being caught at parties and making out with various
characters. the prince, despite protests from his parents, is rumored to have
been stolen from the kingdom of ice as an infant.

♔ the safe house
──────────────────────
this safe house is a three-story, lavish building conveniently in the middle
of nowhere, "off the grid" if you will. there are acres of fenced-in area that
the royal children are allowed to roam around during designated hours.
all of the kings and queens of the four kingdoms have agreed to send their
children to this safe house, where they will be shielded from the horrors
of war and have the ability to know each other and grow together as rulers,
hopefully avoiding conflict in the future. the princes & princesses are here
to continue their studies and bond. they will be here for at least a few
months, until the kings and queens believe it is beneficial for them to come
out of hiding.

whatever your field of study, the royal families have arranged for you to
continue. in most cases, the instructors you were working with prior to the
move have been relocated to the safe house with you. some lessons will be
private, while others will be with other royals.

lake, full service kitchen, combat arena, music room, library, classrooms,
ballroom space [in the basement], balcony
each royal also has their own room, all located on the third floor.

cynthia wanted nothing more than to be excited for the ball, she really did, and she was, in a way. however, as she sat at the edge of her bed, kicking her legs idly as she brushed through her thin blonde hair, she was much more nervous than she expected to be. part of it was simply because she was in a new place, far away from her home and her mother and father (it was a small blessing that her brother was here with her as well). a bigger, more concerning part was all the new people. cynthia loved meeting new people, but it was different like this. these were other royals. anything and everything she said or did could come back to bite not only her, but her entire country. not to mention she was already going in with a disadvantage, what with her poor reputation at public events. she didn't mind being royalty all too much, but it was the public stuff she couldn't stand. there were all these rules she was supposed to follow, but no one ever said what they were. they just got mad when she broke them. it made her feel so out of place; everyone else seemed to get it. why didn't she?

cynthia bit her lip unhappily as her legs began to itch under her dress. the nervousness she felt was making her sensory issues go off the charts - she'd already tried two dresses before, with no avail. and chiffon was supposed to be one of her safe fabrics too! she quickly shed the dress and stood in her underwear before her closet at a loss. organza? too risky. the velvet one her mother had made her bring? absolutely not; the very thought made her cringe. she eventually decided on a deep blue silk gown, with a full skirt that ended just above her ankles. much to her relief, it felt just fine. "wish me luck, ludva," she whispered to the small marble bust of beethoven that sat upon her vanity table. he had no answer for her, which was considerably more comforting than the latter, she thought with a light giggle to herself. she hurriedly slid on a pair of silver heels and stumbled down the long flight of stairs in them, nearly tripping several times. she was halfway out of her room before she realized she'd forgotten to put on any makeup. well, it was probably fine. right?

she walked into the ballroom with her hands awkwardly at her chest, picking her fingernails in a habitual tick. though she had been to these kinds of events plenty of times before, she still found herself at a loss for what to do, and silently cursed her brain as she lingered awkwardly near the doorway. she scanned the room, looking for something to do so she didn't seem as painfully out of place. she first began wandering over towards the refreshments before she heard the music that was playing lightly. it was dance music! she'd never been to a ball before that played music you could actually dance to, despite her usual insistence that she could dance to most anything. breaking out into a grin, she moved towards where the music was coming from after quickly shoving a small appetizer into her mouth.
