Diego was walking hastily towards the room the hearing would be held in. He sighed in relief when he peeked in and saw that his first class hadn't yet started, so he lingered outside for a bit. He didn't feel ready to talk to anybody yet, especially because he knew there would only be one topic being discussed in there and that topic wasn't the English homework.
It was like people lived for this kind of drama.
Despite being annoyed by this situation, he couldn't help but worry about his sister.
He knew how much that guy had meant to her and how devastated she had been after simply breaking up with him - actually it was him breaking up with her, but he couldn't really be mad about that anymore since he was, like, dead now and holding a grudge wasn't very meaningful anymore.
He remembered how she had stated that she just couldn't do it without him, he had been her one true love, and all these other sentimental things... He couldn't even imagine what it had to feel like for her to know that this time he had left her forever and the thought of it made his heart a little heavy.
With a glance at the clock on the wall of the hallway, he took out his cellphone and typed out a quick message to her. "How are you? Do you want to talk? Where are you?" . He was absolutely willing to go out of class and go and comfort her if necessary. That's what he always did since they were children and he felt like it was his responsibility as her older brother. Being there for each other was one of their family values, along with always being honest with each other and settling all arguments peacefully and many others.
He was interrupted in his thought process when someone suddenly bumped into him.
He turned around to see who it was.
It was a student, probably his age or one to two years younger -it was hard to tell honestly, because he had kind of a baby face - of which he thought that he knew him from somewhere.
More precisely, he recognized his face, but he couldn't remember the name to go along with it.
He heard the muttered apology from the guy and just shook his head, making a "forget about it" - motion with his hand.
"It's fine, no big deal.", he smiled reassuringly.
He couldn't help but notice the sad tone in his voice and he assumed that it was because of Jonathan's death.
It couldn't really be anything else, at least nothing Diego could think of.
He wondered if he should say something about that matter.
Anything he could think of would be really insensitive, especially since he barely knew this guy.
What was there to say?
He didn't want to have a conversation about how sad they were about his death or how great of a person good ol' Joe had been or anything like that so he just hoped this moment would pass quickly.
Actually, he was pretty certain that neither of them wanted to have a conversation like that so they could both just go their merry ways.
Just as he thought the other male would leave, ready to say his goodbyes, he saw someone else approaching out of the corner of his eye.
He turned towards the guy and greeted him back after hearing him stuttering a "Hi".
Diego had no idea who this guy was, but he just chose to just talk to him to get this entire ordeal over with.
"Yeah, it's really such a shame. He passed at such a young age... I wasn't very close to him, really, but I know he had a positive impact on many people."
That was about the safest and nicest thing he could say without coming across as fake, at least that's what he thought.
