- james took his bare plate to the sink and rinsed it off before opening the dishwasher and placing it inside accordingly. he closed the door and walked slowly to the backdoor where the screen door remained closed and the dogs were still running and playing. "alright boys, lets go pick up a few things in town." J opened the screen door and smiled warmly when they both stepped calmly inside. he was grateful that the boys knew that it was improper to wrestle and play while indoors. closing both doors, he locked the thick wooden door and started back toward the front of his house. james kept the dog's food bowls full, so he hadnt needed to worry about if they ate breakfast or not. he grabbed his wallet, what remained in his cigarette pack, and headed out the door. mumble and hopper stared up at james with eager expressions, asking if they too were going to a ride. "lets go," james smiled faintly and closed the door behind the duo.
the big, black dodge truck, Ole Faithful, rumbled healthily while they rolled through the narrow town streets. hopper and mumble's heads hung out windows on either side if the truck, back in the back seat. james had always bought crew cab trucks for that exact reason-so the boys could have their own seats. pulling into the supermarket parking lot, james lit another cigarette. he allowed his radio to thump heavily along with the beat to a song he hadnt known. ashing his cigarette, james opened his door and shut it loudly. he hadnt looked at his outfit until now, an off white t-shirt, dark jeans and work boots, and he hadnt necessarily cared either. upon entering the supermarket, he sighed heavily, for he wasnt much of a people person. wandering aimlessly about, he spotted Elizabeth. he made it a point to walk by her, and he would grin if their eyes were to meet. he hadnt needed anything particular from the store, so walking by her didnt put him out of his way. J used a hand to rub the back of his neck while he unintentionally began to hum the melody of whatever song was blaring from his radio before he left. james decided to talk to Liz. "hey, do you know if they sell cigarettes here?"
