"The Quiet Boy"

Nickname: Kay, Kal [he'll respond to those, but prefers that others just use 'Kalani']

Appearance:
Kalani is a 5’8” native Hawaiian male with a tan complexion and a general build; thin and in-shape. However, surfing has built his leg muscles, giving him excellent lower body strength. He has oval-shaped, dark brown eyes and his dark red-brown hair reaches his ears. And much to his annoyance, he has full pink lips.
In presentation, he prefers more casual and comfortable clothing, so he frequents t-shirts and jeans. Though, he will dress up just a little with a collared shirt and non-jean pants, from time to time. It really just depends how he feels that day.

Personality:
Kalani often seems unapproachable and stand-offish; however, he is quite welcoming to those who do approach him. He is very driven when it comes to things he finds interest, which can be both a quality and a fault, seeing as to how he never gives up or strives for something unless he sees fit. His mother often describes him as stubborn and a little bossy. He’s mean when he wants to be…and even sometimes unintentionally. He simply thinks of himself as being blunt. His biggest downfall is being irresponsible. He usually thinks about his actions before acting on them, but has been ‘caught in the moment’ too many times. While he’s generally a ‘good kid’, when he does get into trouble, he doesn’t like owning up to it.
When it comes to females, he may look at them, but that’s about it. It takes a lot to impress him enough to seriously pursue someone. However, his views are quite abstract due to cultural influence, so what may attract most males doesn’t cut it for him. His idea of attractive isn't the norm.
His parents always pushed their Hawaiian culture upon him and his younger adopted sister, yet, he still never took the time to fully learn the language. While he may have only picked up on words and phrases of the language, he is well-versed in traditional dances and symbolism of particular body markings.
His greatest personal interests lie in surfing and painting. At seven-years-old, he gained the ambition to surf and he began painting at twelve-years-old.

Other: Kalani’s parents are originally from the more rural Molokai, Hawaii though he grew up in Maui, Hawaii with his family for easy access to schooling, etc. He often spent summers in Molokai to visit family and keep him in touch with his culture. His family moved inland from Maui when he was 16 due to his father’s job. He only speaks parts of the native language of Hawaiian, having never taken the time to become fluent. For the most part, he’s void of an island accent except when saying certain words, though those with good ears may be able to detect an undertone in his voice. His name is Hawaiian meaning “the heavens”. [He thinks he lives up to his name depending on how you look at it.]
