[ Lydia waited for the elevator doors to open, then stepped out into the warm afternoon breeze. She inhaled and smelled the salty ocean and sandy ground. She smiled to herself and started to walk, no where in particular. She pulled out her small iPod and scrolled through her songlist, trying to decide what to listen to. She was innocently scrolling and walking at the same time, not paying attention to where she was going, and she bumped into a tall blond boy. "Ohmygosh! I'm so sorry!!" She yelped, ripping her headphones out of her ears. ]

Shane had been sitting at the hotel alone, bored. His best friend, Isobel, had wandered off somewhere, so he really didn't know what to do. He shrugged and decided to go to the beach. He stepped outside, feeling the breeze gently run through his hair. He began walking, only to be stopped by a girl running into him by mistake. His bright blue eyes quickly looked down hat her, surprised. He smiled at her. "It's alright," he replied in his thick British accent, "Are you alright?"

[ "i'm fine, i-i'm so sorry, i was um.. totally spaced out." She stuttered. She was really flustered, which she usually was not, for she had natural confidence around people, especially boys. But this boy was cute. She tucked a small piece of her brown hair behind her ear. She bit her lip nervously, and wondered if she looked as scared as she felt. ]

Shane smirked and nodded, "It's okay, we all have those days." He chuckled a little, then glanced at her. He thought she seemed a bit...nervous, perhaps? "Well, um, my name is Shane. What's yours, if you don't mind my asking?" he said softly with a friendly smile.

Lydia sighed in relief that he was making conversation. She hated awkward situations, and especially right now, since if it was awkward with him it would suck, since she'd be seeing him a lot the rest of the summer. She smiled. "Lydia, or Dee, whatever you wanna say." She hoped it wasn't weird that she'd told him her nickname, since they just met.

Shane replied, "That's a really pretty name - and it's a pleasure to meet you." He smiled and stuck out his hand for her to shake.

Lydia smiled and nonchalantly wiped her sweaty palm on the butt of her shorts and then stuck her hand out to meet his. "Thanks, it's kinda preppy, but i guess it's okay." Lydia closed her mouth quickly, feeling like she was babbling, and not wanting to annoy him. She twirled a piece of hair around her finger, trying to occupy her awkwardly placed hands.

Shane chuckled a bit, then smiled, "Well, I still think it's a nice name." There was a brief silence before he looked around and said, "Uh, so, did you just arrive, not too long ago?"

Lydia bit her lip again, and replied, "Yeah, most recent plane that got here. I haven't even unpacked yet, i thought i'd come outside and enjoy the outside. I mean, it's gorgeous here." She looked around her, examining the beautiful beach and the ocean water that was lapping at the shore. There were beautiful trees and flowers everywhere, and she made a mental note to bring her professional camera out sometime and take pictures of the nature.
