A mare has four stages of heat. Stage 1 is when they are just starting and will not accept any stallion. Stage 2 is where they will fight, sometimes a stallion can cover. Stage 3 is when the mare probably won't fight and will most likely accept the stallion. At stage 4 heat, a mare will accept any stallion.
A Trot in English is the same as a Jog in Western
A Canter in English is the same as a Lope in Western
A mare can go into heat one week after she has had her foal
