I could see that Violet was embarrassed so I took her face in my hands and guided her gaze to my face. I made sure I was gentle and I was smiling a little. I looked into her eyes as I said "No-one has ever cared about me before- I always had to look after myself. Ever since I was 10 I had to keep myself alive, fed, exercised and warm. To be honest, I think my dad would rather have me dead then alive as he pretty much kicked me out of the house, so I had years to get used to the cold weather. For the first 6 months I created a make-shift shelter while I worked on a tree house. About a year later I finished the tree house and moved in, my only company is the cat that came to me every night and I'd always give it a dead mouse or squirrel that I couldn't eat. That's right I lived off cooked Rabbit, Squirrel and if I was lucky, sometimes Chicken. I'd never eat the mice as I knew that was the cat's favourite. As he got to trust me he'd sleep next to me and we'd share each other's warmth. I think he was the closest thing to a friend I ever had..." I trailed off in my painful memories of my first few years of living in the wilderness. "As I got older I could get bigger kills and very rarely I would get something like a stray cow and that'd keep me going for a couple of weeks. I still went to school but I just... Avoided people." I left my history at that, otherwise if I kept going I would of cried, I'm sure of it.
