He was sitting on the bottom bunk, reading while sitting against the wall. The heat made the fabric of his shirt stick hotly to his back. Augustus then stood, getting a feel for the new flooring before heading out into the bustling hallway. People were everywere, shouting and laughing. He put a cigarette in between his lips, letting out a sigh

She walked down the hallway confidently, her head tilted slightly upwards and her right hand gripping the strap of her bag. She stopped at her locker to get some stuff and put away her bag, then closed her locker. She leaned against it and sighed, wiping her already-sweaty hair out of her face.

The heat seemed almost too much, making him feel very greatful for the fan he had in his room. His room was co-ed, only because the two of them had a special case. Both were as good as dead. He was jostled about by people in the hallways until one teacher snapped at him to put away the cigarette, even after his explaining the metaphor. Nobody understood him, he was just an odd guy with one leg and a hell of a hard time beating whatever was tearing him apart.

She saw a guy with an unlit cigarette in his mouth. "Let me guess: Some kind of phrase or metaphor?" She asked him, smiling a bit as she swept her hair into a ponytail.

" it was, until the rain began to fall on my parade." He said putting the smoke back into it's package, the box going into his back pocket easily. " put the killing thing right between your teeth and don't let it do it's killing. I don't even own a lighter, this pack should last for a long time" he seemed to be full of life in that moment. Augustus had gone through a lot, but he certainly hadn't lost his passion for living.

Margo swung her large backpack onto the top bunk of the bed with a sigh. So this is what having a future feels like, she thought. She wouldn't have been here if it weren't for a recent realization that you had to have at least a little money in order to survive, which would require a job, which would require a high school diploma. College: getting or not getting in. Trouble: getting or not getting in. These were the kind of things that did not concern her. As soon as she was finished, she would be gone, tramping a perpetual journey. "You will go to the paper towns and you will never come back," she said to herself as she stepped into the hallway.
