Sarah yawned, and stepped out of the bakery. "Mhm...me too..." she mumbled. She checked her phone. 6:45. Gosh, it's already almost midnight back home.... she thought to herself. "you said your home was close, correct?" she asked for clarification.

Lexa smiled at him once more before watching the fireworks as they went on again.

"Yeah," Vern said, looking back at her and noticing her yawn. "Your tired... Oh, oh jet lag, right?" He tripped over his words trying to figure it out. "Either that or I'm really boring," he said jokingly starting to walk forward. Getting home quickly wouldn't be a problem, but if she was tired getting home even quicker was a good idea. "I can give you a piggy-back ride if you want?"

Sarah smiled, and nodded. "yeah, I haven't adjusted yet..." she confessed. When he offered the piggy-back ride, she thought about it and then nodded. "If you think you can carry me, go ahead. I'm pretty light..." she said, before yawning again and leaning against him.

"I figured you were," Vern said with a small smile, bending down to let her on, and scooping under her legs to hold her up. Walking forward he wasn't sure if he should say anything or not, considering she was tired.

Sarah was surprised when he lifted her onto his back, and wrapped her arms around his neck to make sure she didn't fall off. She placed her chin on top of his head, and smiled slightly. She was glad he was carrying her, so she didn't have to keep walking. "Thanks..." she said softly. His hair smells good...wait, what?

Vern laughed a little and couldn't keep the grin on his face. Wishing he could smile up at her he turned on the sidewalk. "No problem," he said. Anything for you... Wait that shouldn't have just crossed my mind.

Sarah smiled and tried to stay awake. She had to keep thinking of random things to do so. She just eventually couldn't get Vern off of her mind, and her eyes fluttered closed. Her breathing slowed as she fell asleep.

Vern felt her breathing slow just as he crossed the threshold into the neighborhood. He reached his house no more than a minute later. Looking down at the pie in his hands, and realizing his other hands was supporting Sarah to some extent, he wondered how he was going to open the door. Bending down slowly he sat the pie down, taking the keys out of his pocket and jiggling the door open with the keys. Shoving them back in his pocket he picked up the pie again and went on in, shutting the door with his foot behind him. His cat perked up at his entrance and meowed. "Shh, mittens." He cringed at the name and realized that it was probably more than a little embarrassing. He shoved the pie on the counter and went into the guest bedroom, wondering how he was going to get Sarah onto the bed without waking her up.
