History: Her mother attended university in Paris for a single year before meeting Casi's father, a man more than ten years her elder who was an accountant for a business there in France. His English was great and they hit it off quickly, marrying within a few months right after returning to the US. It was seven years later than Casi's brother Marc was born. Four years after that Tomy was born, and Cassandra herself followed just a year later.
They moved back to France when Casi was three, as her father felt that he needed to be nearer to his aging parents, who were 79 and 76 at that time. Casi's grandmother died within two years but she was able to get to know her grandfather some, who was a stoic but kind man that loved surprising her with little treats on her visits. She could tell her father didn't like it though, and eventually her visits were reduced to the point where she felt she barely got to say goodbye to him before he died when she was ten.
Not long after, a more unexpected tragedy struck the family. Tomy died when he was twelve in a motor collision with a friend and the friend's mother, and it was then that they decided to uproot and return to the US. Casi could always tell that her mother was upset and grieving but she would never discuss the loss with her other two children, making it hard for them to cope. Having already been away frequently for work, Casi's father was now gone even more frequently and for longer periods of time. However, with money at least they never struggled; their houses were better with each move and after moving to this new city three years ago they were able to purchase a house listed at over a million dollars in some of the more affluent suburbs. This environment has only added to the pressure from her mother to be seen as someone important and influential. Her mother has always impressed upon her the importance of being seen a certain way and has high expectations for her daughter, such as good grades without being a goody two shoes and looking good with a handsome guy on her arm. Her mother was taught that college is a way to pursue interests, pass the time, and socialize to meet one's husband, and she has been encouraging this of Casi.
This has affected Casi's interactions at her schools as she has blossomed into a teenager, and now at this school that she has been at for barely over three years she is seen as one of the queen bees.
Personality: If Casi were to fill out the questionnaire in her yearbook, her 'favorites' and interests would include things such as shopping, gossip, flirting, looking good, and listening to music. It would say that she had applied to several top schools but had generally been denied from them because her grades were fine but not stellar. But who is she really?
After dealing with the rejection letters, Cassandra had to admit that her grades weren't anything special because she had always been lead to believe that standing out for awesome grades meant you were a nerd. Frustrated with herself for letting that peer pressure affect her college future in such a large and harsh way, she has started to re-evaluate some things in her life between her Junior and Senior years. She did not sign up for volleyball or the school dance team this year, claiming to her mother that she didn't have enough time to spend with friends and telling her friends that she wasn't pursuing those interests as careers so there was no point in staying involved in them.
Truth was, she had never been particularly interested in volleyball, and while she enjoyed the dance team, quitting it had felt like a delicious little bite of rebellion. She has been working on her grades some, but studying is proving a hard thing to master and it's hard to keep it a secret when you are popular and seem to have plans nearly every evening.
She hasn't really confided it in Levi yet, but this year it finally feels like she is getting to be herself - and learning just who that is. Even crazier, after hearing about the healthcare debates she's toying with the idea of doing a career in healthcare administration, though she hasn't really looked into it yet. When she is alone and upset she sometimes seems like she's talking to herself, but really she is talking to Tomy.
