Ash sighed and reached for her mare's lead clip. She quickly unclipped it so her mare had complete control of everything. Slowly, she turned to Marcus as she tossed the lead on the ground. "Keeva is a Mustang. She spent her first three years wild. I trust her to know what to do. I took her lead off so that if she bolts, it can't get caught on anything. Besides, she's the devil to anything or anyone she thinks will harm me or Nessa. I've had to rescue several people from her before," she tries to lighten the mood a bit and then hears something in the bushes. Like she had expected, Keeva bolts. She springs into a gallop up the trail. Ashton holds her seat and entwines her hands in Keeva's mane. She sees a flash of dark tan and know what it is that has frightened her mare. A juvenile cougar springs toward them as Keeva bolts. "Marcus!" Ash shouts the warning and stays low on Keeva's back, not giving the cougar very good odds. Nessa is gone by now. Ashton has no idea where she ran off to. She just hoped her dog had the sense to run back to the ranch. Ash suddenly remembers a chase like this from when she first started riding Keeva. Keeva would spook a lot and bolt. But now, Ash had no control. She wanted to let her mare be free of ropes. That way, it lessened the chance of them getting stuck or the cougar getting to them. Ash wanted to look back at Marcus, but didn't want to risk shifting positions and throwing Keeva off.
