The Particular Troubles of Confused Young Adults

[katie;]

Katie sighed and turned to face Jake. "Do you want anything while I'm still standing...?" she asked. She didn't know why, but she felt comfortable around Jake, and she didn't think that he would break his promise.
But that's what she always thought. And then, her heart would be shattered or she would be humiliated.

Jake shook his head, not wanting to burden her in any shape or form.

[katie;]

Katie nodded and locked her door, just in case. She started walking towards her living room and let go of Jake's hand, gesturing for him to sit down. "Sit down, and I'll explain..." She said.

Jake sat down and waited for her to do so also and explain.

[katie;]

Katie sat down and mentally prepared herself to explain it to her. "Where should I begin...? Well, let's just say that all through middle and high school, people always made fun of me. They would always make promises, then break them. It always broke my heart or humiliated me...." she started out.

Jake felt heart broken himself to hear her story. He had heard enough but said nothing. His mind was racing with sad thoughts,

[katie;]

"I'm sorry for tensing up when you asked me to be your friend. But the last time I had a friend, which was during my senior year of high school, my 'friend' told me that my high school crush felt the same way. He asked me to prom, and I said yes. But when we were at the prom, I found out it was just a huge joke. They laughed since I was heartbroken. They threw punch all over me and ruined my dress and everything. Then they said 'It doesn't matter anyways. You were already ugly before we did this.' That night, I ended up alone, completely heartbroken. The issues I already had with trust just got worse from that point on. Ever since then, I've kept a wall up around myself so I wouldn't get hurt more. That's also why I tensed up when you made that promise to me...." Katie explained quietly, a few tears rolling down her cheek.

Compared to Katie, Jake was having a total meltdown inside, leaking so much that his whole face was almost glossed with tears. He shook it saddened him so much. "I... I... I am so sorry.." he muttered with a huge frown.

[katie;]

"Don't be.... I'm used to being hurt by now," Katie said quietly, sniffling. She felt like she was going to have an emotional breakdown, but she didn't want to do this in front of Jake. More tears streamed down her face, and she was choking back sobs.

Jake was stopping himself from lunging forwards and glomping her tightly to try and comfort her, but it would probably not help..
