The Particular Troubles of Confused Young Adults

"U-Uhm... J-Jake...?" Katie somehow managed to stutter out, not breaking his gaze quite yet. As cheesy as it sounds, it was like she was lost in his eyes.

He blinked and managed to respond with, "yes?" Unintentionally, his hand held hers and started to tighten its grip.

"What's...?" Katie said, but couldn't say anything at that moment. Her words were totally lost, like she was a one year old all over again that didn't know how to speak.

"What's.. what?" He asked with a slight frown, thinking something was wrong.

Katie didn't respond verbally and glanced down at their hands in response, her blush brightening. What is this feeling...? she thought, since she hadn't experienced something like this in quite a while.

Jake blushed and looked also, noticing he had held her hand by accident. He however did not let go, but just stayed there.

Katie just sat there, her mind running wild. Is this love that I'm feeling...? Is it... the love I've been searching for, or am I dreaming...? she thought. Even if she never would admit it, she longed to be loved by someone. And it just felt like this was all just some crazy dream or made up scenario.

Jake blinked more, his heart racing. Did he do something wrong, did he slip? He felt like an idiot, and even heartless for just now realizing that he loved her. He- he couldn't have messed up so easily! This was his first time EVER meeting someone so nice and open hearted. To him, her beauty was just a bonus. ((My dad says that about my mom! XD))

Katie stared down at their hands. She knew for a fact that this must be love she was experiencing, but she was kind of afraid. What if she ended up getting hurt again somehow? I mean, she knew that Jake would never do anything like that, but still. "J-Jake, I... I-I," the brunette managed to stutter out.

Jake's eyes widened as he shook more, his heart pounding. Was this really going to happen, was she going to say it. His heart raced with anticipation. "Y- yes?" He asked in response, his fingers crossed behind his back.
