Alexandra [Lexi] was born prematurely, due to complications with nutrients, about four weeks prematurely, so she spent her first six months in the hospital. After she was home and comfortable, they celebrated their first fourth of July in the backyard. Everything was going great and dandy, until one firework fell over and exploded near Lexi. That is how she became deaf. The explosion was too much for her ear drums to take. Tanya, her mother, rushed her to the hospital when Lexi wasn't responding to her favorite toy that made noise. It didn't the doctor long to confirm that she did become deaf. It was a blow to the family, and they were devastated. The family had to adapt quickly to the little predicament that Lexi had. They learned sign language, well the basics of it, and Lexi grew up with more protection and supervision then the other children her age. Tanya became a stay-at-home mom just to make sure that Lexi had supervision. Of course, her older sister, Lillian was responsible for being three years old than Lexi, but Tanya didn't want to risk it. When school started, Lexi had to go to Marriam's School for the Deaf in the next town. Tanya didn't mind driving her deaf daughter to a school where she would learn to overcome obstacles that she would face when she was deaf. Lexi came home everyday with a new sign that she learned in school and showed it off to her family. She learned a lot during her elementary school years; how to read lips, read, draw, writer, and of course sign. When Lexi was about four years old, her mother gave birth to a baby boy. She named him Parker and Lexi was ecstatic to have a little brother to take care of. Parker, when he could talk, didn't understand that Lexi didn't hear him, so he made fun of her now and then but the strong girl didn't let it bother her. Parker was young and he didn't know any better.
As Lexi grew up, her siblings grew more and more apart from their sister. When Lexi went to the public high school, Parker didn't want anything to do with her. He shot her down at every chance she came up to him with a smile on her face. This sent Lexi in a downward spiral to depression. She wouldn't sign to her family or even write things down. Her family relationships were cut down to the last wire and she was ready to leave, even though she was sixteen. Her mother spent hours on the computer trying to find ways to break her from her depression shell, but nothing helped. That was until two years ago, Tanya and Sean found Ravenwood Asylum. Doing what they thought was best for their daughter, they sent her to it. Lexi hated it when she first arrived. She wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep, wouldn't sign to anyone. She stayed up in her room with the door locked and looked out the window all day. Then after a few weeks, she gradually became used to being here and got up the courage to sign to her orderly, ____. She became friends with him and they have become inseparable. Although, Lexi still has her depression shell looming around, she puts on a bright smile and signs a "hello" to everyone.
