I glanced slightly at the cat-sized fox that was pacing stubbornly at Ross and I's feet, most reluctant to pick it up. I didn't trust most animals, unless I knew they trusted me. However, we were short, very frighteningly short, on time, so I scooped up the tawney-red animal into my throbbing arms. "Here," I breathed, anxiously shoving the fox up to Ross's waiting arms, to pass up to Banner. I patiently waited my turn, though I kept glancing back over my shoulder as if expecting a corpse to burst through the hastily barricaded door. I couldn't stand to imagine what would happen if we lost anyone in our little pack of sorts. No, I couldn't think like that now. Not in this situation. However, I highly doubted it would go smoothly from here; we were genuinely cornered. I didn't understand how Banner was cracking jokes right now; I guess to try to lighten the tension. However, I was ready to go, ready to run. Once the undead found something they wanted, they would persue it, though slow they were stubborn. I liked Banner's idea of covering our scent, and nodded fervently.
