My name is Elisa Lauren Conway. That's Elisa like eh-leees-uh. Not like Eliza. That's a completely different name and please don't call me it. Though everyone reads my name that way. I wouldn't be surprised if you did. Try not to, please.
Age:
I am sixteen years old as of December. I like that my birthday is in the wintertime. It means I get to go out and play in the snow, my cheeks turning red and snowflakes in my eyelashes. Some people prefer summer birthdays, so that they don't have school I suppose. But whats the fun in sitting inside all day, because its too hot to move?
History:
This is not something I enjoy talking about. Heres the sad truth of my life: my dad hits my mom. Its been going on for as long as I can remember. Come home from school, see Mom bruised and battered, pretend not to notice, hide in room while he does it again that night. And repeat, for sixteen years. I can't count the number of times I've told Mom to leave him, but she always just shakes her head. I don't know why. Maybe its because since Dad won't let her have a job, she wouldn't be able to support herself. He believes that all women are good for is cooking, cleaning, and making babies. He says he won't pay for me to go to college, because I need a husband not an education. That's why I spend as much time as possible working at the local coffee shop, so I can pay my own way through school. I'd be lying if I said Dad has never laid a finger on me. It's not like with Mom. Happens once, sometimes twice every two months. Only when he gets very upset with me, like when I tried out for soccer. "That's a mans sport, Elisa," he'd said. "Girls should spend their afternoons sewing or s**t." Of course, he'd been laughing as he said that. It was only when I replied with some bad language that he grew angry and gave me a purple lump on my jaw that lasted for three weeks. I hope Mom divorces that ***hole when I go to college. I'm scared for her when I leave.
Crush:
My crush has caramel colored skin, thick black curls, and an addiction to vanilla soy lattes. I bring her one everyday at noon, and she'll stop in the coffee shop I work in at 4 pm everyday for another. She is also my very homophobic best friend. Her name is Jessica Baine and she's the only person in the world who knows what goes on between my parents. She doesn't know that I like girls. No one knows that. I'm not even sure if I know it. About a year ago, I started noticing how pretty Jess looked when she smiled at me. And it snowballed from there. Now every time I bring her a vanilla soy latte, I imagine her taking it from me, brushing back my long, auburn hair, standing on her tiptoes (she is a full head shorter than me) and pressing her full lips to mine. But never in a million years would that happen. She has a fascination with boys, specifically dating them. And she makes it known that she does not approve of homosexuality. Once we were at the mall and two boys walked by us holding hands. She scrunched her face in a disgusted way and said "How gross is that? It's sick how some people think that kind of thing should even be allowed to happen." I am still ashamed of how I nodded in agreement, secretly wishing it was me and her walking through the mall holding hands.

Sadie nodded. "You got that right." She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, she said, "Two years. We were together for two years. He had been cheating on me the last six months." She shuddered slightly just thinking about it. She hadn't really talked to anybody about it, there wasn't anyone there for her to talk to.

Luke toke a deep breath and listened, He put his arm around her and said, "I am sorry he did that, there are some people that don't know what they have, or are just stupid. He was just a cold-hearted jerk, personally cheating is the worst thing to do, I could never do that..." he said not really sure and being a boy in what he said. He thought about something more thoughtful to say though, but didn't want to overstep.

Sadie sighed, thinking about it all. "That's why I'm such a mope, never smiling and being boring." She said, looking up at him. "Well, that and because of my depression which I've had my whole life because my rich stuck up parents are never there for me..." She trailed off, she had never blamed her depression on her parents before. While she had her opinions about them, she just thought something was wrong with her.

Luke listened and said, "First off you not boring, you just have be let yourself be happy...And if they aren't there for you, just remember I am going be here for you, I promise" he told he to try and make her feel better.

Sadie smiled. "Thanks." She said, feeling safe and comforted, just sitting here next to him.

Luke rested against her and it became dark as the last ray of sun dipped beyond the lake. He sighed and stood up reluctantly, "I should get you home" he told her.

Sadie nodded, then stood up slowly. "Yeah, I guess so." She said, wishing the day didn't have to end. It was the best day she had had in a very long time, maybe the best she'd ever had.

Luke sensed she didn't want to, "I would say because of you parents you could stay at my house, but you saw how small it is...I mean if you wanted to I could sleep on the floor though" he suggested.
