It was kind of how he'd expected it to be... but kind of not. Everyone was standing round a bit awkwardly, or wandering off alone, there was none of the free flowing conversation they'd had before. It would probably come back reasonably quickly though, they'd just have to get through this first bit. He hated awkward pauses though, so he split from the group which had formed (Khayle, Blair and Olive) and galloped over to where Annmarie was wetting her feet in the lapping waves. He laughed genuinely as her hair blew into her face, hoping that she wouldn't take it offensively, and gave her a look with an eyebrow arched.
He'd always thought Ann was fun, she was totally smart which was awesome because he'd never been a swot with lessons, and she always seemed the type who might be interested in his arty stuff sometimes. 'Heya', he grinned, showing his slightly gawkily big teeth, 'What's been happening? I can't believe how long it's been, I've missed all you guys...' His face turned slightly more serious.He didn't want to come across as too much of a loser and too excited to see everyone if they didn't feel as strongly. His urge was to do something silly, like he used to, just to break some of the tension. Without thinking he did an incredibly clumsy cartwheel in the damp sand at the edge of the wave, soaking his long hair in salty water in the process. Awkwardly, he tried to straighten himself up and laugh. Perhaps the group would coalesce soon and it would be just like old times again.
