But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all? And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like you've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settles around us
And the walls kept tumbling down, in the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills bringing darkness from abovee

He's got a Rolling Stones tee, But he only knows one song
They think they're from the sixty's, But they were born in 1991
There's a man standing in the corner,
No one knows quite where he's from
There's a fight between Jill and Lorna,
She's got a tattoo of a peace sign on her thumb
All that and the night has just begun.
Checkered shirts and chino trousers, Is this some kind of uniform?
It seems that they think they're gangsters, They barely started 6th form
She thinks she's in Barbados, But outside it's minus three
There's a guy outside I'm avoiding, I think that he shares a mystery
That time when he whispered to me.
Stay out tonight and see through my eyes
Stay out this time, and we'll be home by five
Stay out, stay out, stay out.

- Toby was born, the first child of an ever-growing and tight knit family. Christophe and Vivienne Granger her parents. With 2 younger siblings, the quaint home that Toby grew up in was far from dull. Laughter could be heard spilling from the Granger household at practically any time of day from several houses down and the games rarely ceased. Of course, like all families, they had their rough patches, but each of these were quickly smoothed over. As Vivienne happened to be the school counselor for Raines High School during their childhood, this may have contributed to quick resolutions. Once Toby entered school, she found herself in a home away from home. Her thirst for knowledge seemed unquenchable and though she'd often visited tagging along with her mother on business, Toby was seeing school in a whole new light. With a pleasant personality, Toby easily made friends, especially with a boy her age named Samuel Riese. Having spent most of her young life with just her siblings, Toby quickly latched onto Samuel and the two became best friends. The whole of her young school days proceeded quite normally as Toby worked to do her best in classes and follow in the footsteps of her older sisters. It wasn't until her second year of high school that a problem started to arise. As a young girl, Tony had always been rather awkward looking. Tall and gangly with a pair of quite plump lips, she was never considered to be the most attractive girl in her class. It was the petite girls that garnered all the attention of her male classmates and although she was never teased for her looks, she was certainly never complimented on them either. Toby never paid this lack of male attention much mind, focusing instead on her studies and hanging out with Samuel. Although as she aged, her figure transformed and the gangly body she used to have had reinvented itself. With long, slender legs and svelte curves, she quickly found herself the center of all the male attention that she'd been on the outside of for so long. Even her lips (which had previously been made fun of unbeknownst to her) were suddenly being referred to as pillowy and luscious. Toby was thrust headfirst into a whole new world. Her schoolyard crushes that had gone unnoticed in the past reignited and Toby discovered a new side to herself. Enchanted by the thrill of high school romance, her grades started to slip the moment she fell head over heels for Liam Owens, a second-year senior and possibly the most ill-mannered student in the entire school. Not only were Liam's grades abysmal, but he had a nasty reputation for disrespecting the teachers, getting into unfounded fights with other guys, and breaking the ladies' hearts. Even knowing all of this, Toby couldn't help but fall for his model looks and charming words. Originally selected to be his History tutor, she quickly learned of his rocky home life and instantly felt a need to help him. She found herself spending more time with him outside of their tutoring sessions, insisting to all her friends that she was simply trying to help him, to be someone for him to talk to. To their dismay, it soon became apparent that what may have been Toby's innocent attempt to help Liam had spiraled into something else. When the two became an item (at least as far as Toby was concerned), convincing her to cut class or blow off homework became easy for Liam. Despite numerous interventions from her family and friends, Toby insisted her and Liam were in love. Her grades faltered, staying well above failing but nowhere near where they had been previously. Things continued this way for most of her sophomore year, raising alarm for everyone but her. It wasn't until spring break that her whirlwind romance with Liam would come to a screeching halt. In the weeks prior, news has spread around school that everyone was heading to Lake Viridi for what was sure to be a massive week long party, a party that Toby's parents had quickly said no to. Although he acted disappointed that Toby wouldn't be coming along, Liam left at the beginning of break without her. By that Wednesday, Toby convinced her parents to let her oldest sister Ariane take her to the lake for just that night to spend time with her friends. It was that night that Toby first experienced the wrenching pain of heartbreak. As she walked through the crowd of fellow students partying by the lake shore, Toby spotted Liam standing by the woods, pressing another girl tightly up against a tree. She watched frozen as his hands roamed eagerly over her body and his kisses grew more feverish. In a rush, all the words of concerns uttered by her family and friends came flooding back, finally striking a chord with her. With a rage and an incredible sadness growing steadily within her, Toby stormed towards Liam and pushed him back from the girl. Up close and without her lips plastered against Liam's, Toby could see who the girl was. A girl that Toby had previously considered one of her closest friends. Tears flooding her eyes, she turned to face a smirking Liam and without a single word landed a well-placed smack across his face. Toby ran off back into the crowd to find Ariane and returned home. The rest of her high school years followed without incident and her grades steadily raised to their previous positions. She set her sights on a future career as a teacher and focused a great deal of energy into her studies, growing into a well-mannered and poised young woman. Though several guys came and went, Toby kept her head on straight and pushed forward, never looking back to the girl she'd let herself become for a brief moment of her teenage years. After graduation, Toby enrolled at the University of Mascarilla to study French and Education. At college, she fell into love with learning all over again and became inspired by the wealth of knowledge that her professors possessed. Although Toby was happy with the course of study she had chosen, it wasn't until her final year that one professor would help her see she truly was heading down the right path. From the very first day of his class, Professor Damian Thorne was nothing shy of greatness. Both handsome and full of old world charm, it was easy to see how every student seemed to hang on his every word. French, though already a beautiful language, seemed memorizing when it flowed from his lips. Although most impressive of all was his intelligence. She soon became transfixed, intent on learning all she could from Professor Thorne before the year was up and graduation brought things to a close. Chats after class soon turned into lunch dates and coffee shop encounters, all of which Toby tried to convince herself were strictly professional, but it was hard to deny her attraction to him. Sooner than she'd expected, Toby caught herself looking forward to their one-on-one time more than his actual class. She'd bring him coffee and scones during his office hours, trying to find more excuses to spent time with him, but always trying to keep a respectable distance. Although Toby was aware that student-professor relationships weren't unheard of, she didn't want to become "that girl". Since her romance with Liam, Toby had grown far more cautious and respectful of herself. Despite her feelings towards Damian, she did not act on them. When graduation was only a month away, things took a drastic turn. As class ended, Toby gathered her belongings slowly, lingering until the last student left the classroom. Walking to the front of the room, she stood smiling next to Professor Thorne's desk, hoping he'd have time for a short chat before his next class. It was clear the moment he looked at her that today was not going to be like all the rest. Within seconds, Toby felt her bare arms grasped in his hands and her body being forced back against the white board. Her blue eyes grew wide in surprise as his lips pressed roughly against her own, but her body stayed rigid. The gentleman that she'd spent so much time with had faded quickly away and though her feelings matched his own, she could not bring herself to melt into his arms and kiss him back. Instead, she was starkly reminded of that image of when she was 15 - Liam pressing her close friend tightly against the tree and kissing her with rough passion. And just as suddenly as Damian had kissed her, he had pulled away. She wanted to reach out to him and tell him she felt the same way, but she just couldn't. The man who had just kissed her was not the man she had gotten to know and that was what shocked her above all. Toby merely watched as he gathered his things and left the room, learning the next day that he was no longer her professor.

- The horizon seemed to stretch the whole length of the earth; a day so bright and so perfect that the birds couldn't stop screeching. No. That wasn't the screeching; the noise was coming from a woman; not a woman a young adult. The girl not yet taken the right of passage; she was still naive and yet to experience the harsh world. The young adult was screaming- a painful sound, the boy next too her was only just turned 21 and this was not part of his life plan; this was not what he expected. But not matter what was expected- reality is harsh and the pair were beginning to realize this. The boy and girl had just lost their apartment because they couldn't afford the pay and they were now living with the girls parents. Tears streamed down the face of the girl as she gave that final push. The strangled breathing of the girl slowed and all the boy could hear was the shuffling of the doctors feet as they took the baby girl away. The woman smiled at the man. Through the pain they had managed to create something beautiful; love. The pain tears turned into happy tears; the girl was gone and in her place was a mother- a woman. The boy in the chair with the broken finger just stared lovingly into the mothers eyes he was a farther now. Sure they were going to be ridiculed and teased; they were hardly old enough the have a baby nor were they financially in the right position. The man only 21 and the woman only 20, but they were in love- nothing else mattered. The woman finally noticed the man trying to move his hand out of hers and she realized him from her vice. ''Christophe are you okay?'' she questioned. ''I think... You broke my finger.'' he replied. Then they began to laugh. She was in pain. He was in pain. But their baby girl was just a room away. Christophe looked up and noticed that his girlfriend was asleep. He stood up and began to walk around the hospital- the quaint little hallways made the hospital look small; well the hospital WAS small. Christophe found himself wandering into kids playroom- the toy bricks and Lego reserved for ill children; but he found what he was looking for. A small keyboard. He sat down on the small seat and began to play. His gruff voice singing don't stop believing. ''Streetlights people...'' A sweet voice joined in at the end. ''I love you Vivienne." The baby was born and it still didn't have a name. The parents debated and argued over the name of their little girl... So many different names shouted at each other casing arguments and curse words to be spat. The un-named little girl just sat and watched with wide eyes. ''What about Melody?'' her mother would ask and the farther would reply with another name... ''Hannah? Gabby? Penny?'' he would question. The mother replying with a stiff shake of the head. At this rate the girl would never be named! The parents were too busy arguing to notice that their little girl had begun to clap her chubby little hands and gurgle with happiness. Mickey Mouse was currently explaining to the audience about his club house and asking whether you wanted to go in; in a very annoying voice. The absorbed parents finally noticed. ''Toby.'' Jenny laughed, Christophe nodded his approval and the strange pair began to prance around the hospital. How did the second name come to be? Well the parents pranced straight into the cancer ward- there was a little boy named Corey smiled at the two new parents and waved laughing at their stupidity. Vivienne and Christophe stopped dancing and waved back at the small child; they came closer to the ill child and sat down on the chairs near the bed. ''How are you sweety?'' Vivienne asked a kind smile on her face. She knew that this kid was very ill; she could tell. ''I've been better...'' Corey replied. How old was he 12? 13? 14? No older. ''Things will get better.''Cris said with a small smile, he doubted himself though, the small boy did not look well. Vivienne felt a little green; not long ago she was this girls age, what if she was in her place? Vivienne was about to say something comforting but she heard a baby crying- it was Toby! ''Bye Corey you have a good rest.'' Christophe said before jogging back to the other room. ''Stay strong...'' Vivienne said before walking away. She felt the tears in her eyes. ''Chris... Corey. Her middle name will be Corey.'' Vivienne confirmed. ''Yes. Yes it will.'' he replied before picking up little Toby. After spending 3 years in her mothers house Vivienne had had enough; she was fuming. They needed space- and Dublin was just the place. After a couple of months of building up they finally moved. Chris, Vivienne, Toby and a little baby called Charlie. Charlie was exactly 6 months old when the Grangers moved house; some people say that Viv must have dropped the baby on his head- to make her turn out the way she did... Toby knew though, it wasn't because she was crazy- she just loved too much. Even though toby was older than charlie- ever since charlie could walk and talk he has been protective over his sister. At first it was cute- they would do everything together... After a while it got a little creepy. Toby was obsessed with princesses! She was a dreamer she would dream of being a princess when she grew up; this changed when she turned five. What happened then? Well Toby got her first skateboard! She loved it. She would spend hours on end playing! But when Charlie was awake he would attempt to stand up on the skateboard with his sister. At this point Charlie was unable to say Toby so it came out come like, 'Bee' Charlie loved his older sister. Toby was never jealous because Charlie got more attention than her; she was a observant kid. Ever since she was really little she acted more like a boy than a girl and too be honest she was happy like that. She dreamed of motorcycles. But too her brother she was everything he wanted too be. She would tell him story's about Corey. You see Corey's parents kept in contact with the teenager- she was in fact 13 and battling Cancer for 2 years. viv was glad that Toby's middle name was because it mean't she was strong. Well Corey had won the fight. He was now living in the UK with his girlfriend. He was fit and healthy and over the illness. But Chris and Viv still prayed that the illness would never come back. Unimportant things happened and the Granger family became tighter and closer than ever. The love was always there...
