The guard pondered this for a moment, eye brows pulling together in something like confusion. "But I don't know her." Well. Well there went that plan. Either the guard didn't understand the point of a hostage, or his job; or he just didn't care about the 'little' people at all. "Do it." He said, as if challenging the bluff. Which was a real problem because August really was bluffing. There was no way he could actually harm someone whose only fault was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He looked over at the girl, then the guard and his followers, and then back to the busy market. "I'd rather not." He said with something of a groan, releasing her arm and turning the sword over in his hand to hold it properly.
