Ashley sat at the kitchen table alone, as she usually did, blankly watching some little kid's tv show. She savored the taste of a warm slice of buttered toast as it melted in her mouth, and when she finished, was off rummaging through the fridge for some watermelon. To her dismay, she couldn't find any of her favorite fruit, and instead headed back to her bathroom to brush her teeth. As she gazed into the mirror, her eyes were drawn to one large blemish that had appeared on her forehead that hadn't seemed to have been there the day before. "Great..." She muttered to herself, searching her mother's makeup stash for a tube of concealer. "Of course I get a giant red spot the day I decide to wear a ponytail." Sighing, she dabbed a finger smothered in a small amount of concealer to the pimple, doing her best to blend it in with the rest of her skin's complexion. After she finished with her masterpiece, she bit her lip, frowning. It would have to do, and she would just hope nobody noticed.
The school wasn't too much of a walk, so Ashley always decided to ditch her schoolbus and spend some quality time with herself instead. Her feet led her down the familiar path and she let her large brown eyes wander to the sky, where she watched a lazy cloud pass by overhead. She smiled to herself as she began to analyze the qualities of the cloud: white, puffy, alone, shaped like a rabbit... Suddenly, a car sped by, shooting loose pebbles at Ashley. She winced, rubbing her arm, and narrowed her eyes at the driver, though she knew it wasn't his fault. Finally, the school was in sight at the top of the hill, just as Ashley's pack was starting to weigh down her shoulder. Please let the day go by slowly... she prayed silently, keeping her expression apathetic as the turf below her transformed from the concrete of the sidewalk to the grass of the field in front of the school.
