Scars from the war: Gouges in the armor and a scar running from the bottom of his left ear along his jaw. The venom isn't very powerful, but if a stinger wound goes a few weeks untreated, it can be deadly.

Balthazar looked around, watching for signs of danger. He held Grace's hand and led her into an alley to escape from something moving a little ways away. His tail twitched as he watched someone come into view.

Shark wandered through the streets, looking for something to scavenge.

Balthazar's tail twitched again, watching the red-haired boy sneak about.
"Who's that?" Grace asked. She knew Balthazar knew more about the people around than she did.
"No idea," Balthazar muttered. "I'm just watching."

Shark grinned as he came upon an old gas station. He kicked open the door and walked inside, helping himself to some food and nodding to the dead body in the corner.

"Stay here," Balthazar warned Grace, slipping out of the alley. "And try to stay quiet. I don't want you getting hurt." He stepped into the scorched street and walked warily toward the gas station.

Shark walked out of the gas station, his backpack refilled, and stopped in his tracks. He took up a defensive position and pulled put his axe, waiting for the monster to attack.

Balthazar recognized the stance of hostility and distrust. He crouched, grabbing the handle of his cutlass, but not drawing. His tail swung back and forth, raised over his head. He said nothing. If the boy attacked, words would not be necessary, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.
