Derek grinned and said, "Yeah, he has taken to her. I'm glad of it. She was scared of him the first time she saw him."

"I was too." Kaiiyen said. "But, I'm glad she took quite a liking to him. She hadn't had a pet since she was... Oh... I can't even remember."

Derek finished eating and set his plate down saying, "I'm not surprised. Most people don't know how to react to a pitbull."

Kaiiyen smiled. "Pig bulls have a bad reputation. But some are good. That's probably why."

Derek leaned back against the couch and nodded saying, "That's exactly why, but I never believed that they were bad. There's no such thing as a bad breed; it's the people who influence the dog and change it's behavior for better or worse."

"I know. The breed gets blamed for the cruelty of the human race. They don't know what they're doing; animals don't know the difference between wrong or right, good and bad." Kaiiyen sighed and leaned back as well. "Which is another reason why I think the human race should die out."

Derek looked at her out of the corner of his eye and muttered, "You just condemned yourself to die. How would that help exactly?"

Kaiiyen thought for a second. "I love you. And Eliza. And the little one on the way. But the human race is so... Cruel. Cold. Unforgiving. We don't escape death. Ever. He's standing over us every second, waiting for us to kick the bucket. The human race gone... Beauty triumphs nature. Sure, the predation goes on, the mutualism, commensalism, parasitism, nothing can stop that. But forests regrow, species near extinction live again. Mother Nature takes over. Makes the plane what it truly was meant to be. Time heals all wounds. We are part of the earth. The earth owns us, not the other way around."

Derek said nothing for a moment then murmured, "I agree with you, but I would rather not have to die in order for this world to return to the beauty it once had. Then, I wouldn't have the chance to see it with you."
