i'm called LAKE.
i am a LADY,
17 YEARS YOUNG,
and 5 FEET TALL.

i THINK

what lake lacks in height, she makes up for with personality. she is a bright, shining star of a character, and it's no surprise, considering she was raised by two professional string players: her mother, a cellist, and her father, a violinist. in fact, her middle name is derived from the great composer mozart - it was also his middle name. even by looking at what she's called, you can see that this girl is destined for great things.

lake is not your typical teenage stereotype, though. unlike most, she doesn't stay up all night, has never had a sip of alcohol, studies for tests, gets straight a's, and has never been kissed. don't get me wrong, though, lake's not a square. she's as musically talented as her parents, but directs her attention towards her ukelele - she can be sighted around town, any place there's a bench or a shady tree, strumming away and singing something under her breath. and when her uke's not trailing behind her, then it's her camera; lake sees half of life through a lens.

lake isn't as quiet as you might think she is. she's quirky, answers rhetorical questions, and comes up with goofy ideas that no one else understands. she's quite vocal, and loves raising her hand in class, learning new things.

lake's not as perfect as she seems, though. she was bullied all through middle school, and though she doesn't look it, there are still scars inside of her that won't ever heal. and under her pretty clothes and plastic smile, there's a skeletal girl who doesn't eat enough, doesn't sleep enough, and doesn't love enough. she spends too much time fretting, practicing chords to painful perfection, and hiding away in a book.

lake's a hard nut to crack - but as her parents would say, she's got as much spirit as a symphony.

i LOOK

lake has a stunning smattering of freckles that climb up her nose and down the other side, giving her almost a mask of sorts. her eyes are the color of honey against wood, set in a rounded face, framed by two thin arches for eyebrows. she has a blend of colors in her wavy locks - between brown, blonde, and red - and they fall a whopping two feet from her head, stopping right before her waist (she's still growing it out).

only five feet tall, lake is as thin as a string on her ukelele. she dresses in anything from vintage to name brand, but she makes sure to mix it up with clothes she sews on her own - a tradition passed down from her grandmother. she can be seen in tights one day and sweats another; really, her fashion sense is quite admirable.

i CARE FOR

lake loves:

most things in the world, especially people. she has an unquenchable need for attention - and when she's ignored, she's left lonely and stoic for days. not only is she social, but lake is accepting. of anyone. people are known to talk to her, even if they aren't close friends, because lake is an amazing listener. she's great at sympathizing - keeping secrets - and passes no judgement when no judgement is needed.

fall. everything about autumn makes this girl's heartbeat quicken. she loves hot cocoa mildly warm, hopping from leaf to leaf without touching the sidewalk, and the feel of a soft drizzle on her shoulders. she adores hoodies, hats with earflaps, and baking pies.

animals. lake's parents supply her with a menagerie of pets. she's raised chickens, parakeets, kittens - you name it. her two best friends though, believe it or not, are a cat and a rat. her rat, Bernard, can be found in the hoods of her jackets, in her pockets, in her sleeves, on her shoulders. he's with her most of the time, but he's good at staying hidden.

kids. lake wants a big family when she's married, and there's good reason for it. she's a wonderful inspiration to kids, and somehow, she never tires of their endless antics and crazy ideas - maybe because she feels the same way sometimes. she never fails to delight her friends' younger siblings, kids she babysits, and toddlers she meets around town. somehow, though, her tolerance for people older than 10 is not as high.

lake dislikes:

criticism. lake tries to hide behind perfection, so when she's called out for a mistake or a failure, she finds it hard to accept. she snaps back angrily, her cheeks flush. she doesn't mean to, but it's hard to see the mistakes you make when you're already insecure.

food. as a younger girl, she was involved in a series of simply horrible deeds. after the pain bestowed upon her and the words exclaimed about her physical appearance, she has never been comfortable with food. in short, lake tends to starve herself.

laziness. lake is about the most diligent person on the planet. always plans ahead, always gets things done, and always early to wherever she's going. when she is forced to cooperate with someone who doesn't budget their time wisely and, frankly, is a slacker, she gets crazy frustrated.

hate. lake doesn't understand how people are able to use this word so often and so inconsiderately. she might dissect people - pick them apart, find their strengths and weaknesses. she might even dislike their weaknesses. but she cannot comprehend the way people treat each other, and believes that, as a species, we should stick together. this is a subject she can get into countless squabbles about.
