Mornings. A word that annoyed the exhausted brunette still lying away in bed came around again like it did every day. From any other perspective, a day would not exist without the sun rising, or the world would be dark in dull. In fact, the bold monolithic source of light glowed so brightly that the crazy people who enjoy mushing together letters to create an amazing time of the day: the glorious morning. There were a few perks that came with the beginning of the day, but Tori usually overlooked them as if they were transparent or so insignificant and small it did not really matter. Today was no exception, and the same events went on. The only different thing that could be noticed as unique was the sound of a crash downstairs. The echo slithered up the stairs and eventually slipped into Tori's bedroom and stirred her from her sleep. She groaned and pulled her pillow over her head... but there was another bang that stirred the house from the very bottom of the earth followed by another that sounded like a cannon went off. That was as much as the easily disturbed girl could take, so the half-asleep teenager stood up with an agitated expression and gazed out her window. Construction. Yes, that was what her parents were currently wasting their money on, not Tori nor her broth but rather the remolding of their front yard. At the moment, it appeared bare and not the best sight to see, but her mother always said in that oh-so-cheerful voice, "Oh, hun, it's going to be finished soon. Then, it is going to be gorgeous. Gorgeous I tell you." As if, she thought to herself as she trudged to the bathroom.
Like any other typical morning, she got herself ready for the day and eventually emerged from the room with a bright face and smile, one that was commonly too tight to be true and naturally came to her after years of forcing those fake smiles onto her lips. At one time, that was not the case, but now, it was difficult to get a genuine smile from the broken girl. When she did smile, though, it almost felt like her world and everyone else's lit up, an alternative to the sun. As this thought passed Tori's mind, her hand along with the help of her feet unconsciously made their way to her bag, then, to her phone. Soon, an android became visible, and Tori rapidly pressed a few buttons until a blank text message came up, one that was directed to Ashten, her boyfriend. Hey, heading to Starbucks in a moment. Wanna meet up there?" she texted. Once the message was sent, she slung her bag over her shoulder, sauntered down the stairs, and eventually was standing in front of the oak door, the only exit of her house minus the back door. Sure, Tori could have eaten breakfast or greeted her brother, but he always disliked her seeing Ashten and Starbucks offered the best breakfast, better than anything Tori could ever make. Also, her mother and step-father were gone to work, so they were not even there to pay a visit to. He would probably enjoy the solitude, so Tori slipped into a pair of her fairly new boots and stepped outside.
Snow gently fell on the blanket of pure white that could only be described as heavenly. There were several snowflakes, more than there are usually, and it was a beautiful weather. Sometimes, it got so freezing that it would be like stepping out into a frigid iceland seeming colder than Antarctica’s harsh winters or cover the earth with inches and inches of snow. Fortunately, today was not one of those days, and everything seemed to be going smooth despite waking up earlier than usual. It was actually so nice out that Tori strolled across the sidewalk to the nearby coffeehouse. Besides, her brother would get extremely p*ssed if she even dared to attempt to take his car, the only one left on the driveway, so her boots crunched every time she stepped on the cushion of snow while she gradually grew closer to her destination.
