Jason looked at the surf board. He waited for Ember to say something about what to do.

Ember looked at him. "Set it down and lay down on it like this." she laid on her stomach and held her hands behind her.

Jason nodded and laid his down and did the same thing Ember was.

"Now move your arm like this," she said. She moved her arm up and around, as if she were paddling.

Jason nodded and did what she did. He thought it was fun to swim in the sand.

Ember smiled. "You're a natural!" she told him honestly, "Now pretend a wave is coming up. Sit up and tuck your knees under you, then hold your arms out and stand." she said doing everything easily.

Jason nodded and did what she did, standing up carefully so he wouldn't fall over. He never did have a good balance.

Ember stepped off her board and adjusted his posture. "stand tall" she told him. She then adjusted his feet, making them slightly farther apart. "now you're ready to ride a wave."

Jason nodded and looked ahead, almost expecting a wave to come after him.

Ember made wave noises and rocked him, gently pushing him over. She lost her balance and fell on top of him. "oops, wipe out!" she exclaimed laughing and slightly blushing.
