Nick peered out the window, swallowing nervously. His stomach was a whole whirlwind of emotions. He couldn't believe he'd even been accepted! So many people applied every year, and he was chosen out of hundreds, maybe thousands of entries. Still, he was nervous that he'd make one wrong move, and they'd realize they'd made a grave mistake. Almost above all, he missed his family. He even missed his father already, even though he right in the car beside him.
"Are you alright?"
He gave a nod. As much as this was all to take in, he wouldn't give it up for anything. If this truly was just a dream, he wanted to make the most of it. He wanted to wake up knowing he'd done his best instead of running back home like the coward he was. And maybe, just maybe, this was all real.
"Are you ready?"
This time he paused before giving a small nod in response. He open the door and stepped out onto the sidewalk, swinging one of his bags over his shoulder before going to retrieve the other from the trunk. When he returned, his suitcase rolling after him, he found his father waiting for him beside the car. They stared at each other for a moment before the older man made a move as if to shake his son's hand. Seeming to think better of it, he instead open his arms for a hug, which Nick eagerly took.
"I'll miss you." He murmured into his father's chest.
The man laughed. "Once you get used to it, you'll forget you even had a family. 'Family? What family? You mean my dorm mate?'" He joked.
"I already miss you." Nick said softly, feeling close to tears. His father gently patted his head before breaking the embrace, much to Nick's distaste.
"You want to be here, don't you?"
Nick gave a tearful nod.
His father gave him a gentle smile. "Then, let's see that. Don't worry about us. We'll be right at home, waiting for you. So, go on. Make friends, dance, have fun."
Nick felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips, and his fathers grin grew. He gave his son one last hug, before reminding him to writing, getting into his car, and disappearing down the road.
Nick sniffled and wiped the tears from his eyes, a smile still left on his face. Finally, when his father's car could no longer be seen, he turned and made his way toward the front doors of the school. First things first, he had to find his dorm. According to the papers he dug out of the top pocket of his suitcase, the boys' dormitory was in the West wing of the school, he was in dorm 203, and his dormmate was a boy by the name of Jace Alexander. With hopes that he'd get along well with this "Jace," Nick set off on his quest to find his dorm.
((Phew, that took me a while. And I'm super tired. Uuurgh school gimme my energy back. That's miiiiine ;; ))
