Hanna's full name is Hanna Ashley Marin. It's a rather uncommon name, being a variation of the popular girl name 'Hannah.' Her parents were ecstatic when they found out they were going to welcome a baby girl into the world, and they wanted to name her something special. His grandmother was named Hannah, and her father wanted to name the baby after her. Hanna's mother, on the other hand, didn't want her daughter to be given such a common name. After some thinking, they decided on the name Hanna, an uncommon variation of Hannah, a name that means joy in african, and grace in hebrew. Hanna is a pretty short name, so she only has one nickname: Han. Her middle name, Ashley, is a place name and surname from the Old English words 'æsc' (ash) and 'leah' (wood).

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and the first thing you notice in Hanna Marin are her eyes. Expressive eyes, that will betray any feeling, no matter how small. Look deep into her eyes, study them closely, and you will see the true Hanna, a sweet, insecure girl who just wants to be loved. Her eyes are an electric kind of blue, that matches the lively, vivacious part of her personality. Depending on the light, her eyes can look gray or light blue. Now, onto her hair. Hanna's hair is blonde, a lighter kind of blonde, like the warm sunshine reflecting on the water, not the golden-haired type. She loves to change her hair, and will try new styles. She is wearing her hair shorter this year, and it falls around her neck-shoulders. She isn't tall, but she isn't short, measuring about 5'5. She is rather slender, but has curves. Her features are feminine, with rosy lips, a dainty nose, and pretty eyes. She has dimples, and when she smiles, those will usually show. Hanna wishes people would see past her pretty face and see who she really is.

Most people see Hanna as the Queen Bee of the school, and the blonde girl that's always with her three other friends. However, look closer and you might just be in for a surprise. Hanna has had her share of tough experiences in life, and although she won't admit it to many, her parents' split really broke her heart. It's been six years since her father left, and he never once called, visited, or emailed her. If this topic comes up in conversation, she'll lightly dismiss it with a change of subject, or a witty reply. Truth is, she really misses her father, and sees him as the man who would walk with her to the park, and tell her bedtime stories at night, not the man who he has become, a busy, greedy man who tries to buy her affection with expensive gifts. Looking past all of the assumptions others have made about the blonde, you can see who Hanna truly is. Behind her seemingly flawless attitude, lies an insecure girl who has put up many walls because she doesn't want others finding out that she is still haunted by who she used to be. The year before her parents split, Hanna started overeating. Whenever she was nervous, she would gobble down junk food, and she soon became heavier. Her parents divorced soon after, and an emotional wreck, eleven-year-old Hanna would throw up everything she ate in attempts to become thinner. The poor girl thought her parents had divorced because of her. When Alison picked her as one of the girls in her clique, she was excited. However, when Ali gave her the nickname 'Hefty Hanna', she felt horrible and that only made her continue her routine. She stopped after a while, but she is still haunted by that image of 'Hefty Hanna'. She is a pretty sweet girl, with a compassionate spirit. She hates to see her friends hurt, and often worries about them if they don't come to school. Hanna is emotional, and feel things strongly. She will often get carried away by how she is feeling, and won't think before she acts with the heart, and not the mind. She is fiercely loyal to her loved ones, and will use her sharp tongue to defend them if that becomes the case. Hanna has a sarcastic sense of humor, and won't miss a beat with her witty replies. Don't make her mad, as this girl can really spit venom when she wants to. She is lively, vivacious and out-spoken, and will openly state her opinion about something. Hanna loves to playfully tease her friends, and loves to see others smile, pushing her feelings aside to help them. A natural liar, she can easily fool others, but doesn't like lying to those she cares about.

Hanna was born to a happy couple who were really excited about their daughter. When she was born, her parents were really happy. Her first few years of life flew by quickly, and she was an intelligent, happy child. Her parents were always there to help her if she needed it, and she thought that nothing would ever change. How wrong she was. When Hanna was nine, her parents started arguing a lot, causing the girl to hide in her bedroom and cover her ears so she wouldn't hear them bickering. She would cry every night, thinking that she was the reason her parents were fighting. When she turned ten, the trauma from her parent's fights had left a lasting effect on her, and she started overeating. Her parents divorced when she was about to turn eleven, and her eleventh birthday was spent at her mom's new house alone while her mother and father were in court, fighting over custody. Her mom ended up having full custody of the girl. At first it was hard, but Hanna learned to put up walls. Alison picked her as one of her best friends, and she felt better about herself. Her overeating led to gain of weight, and kids at school, following Ali's lead, started calling her 'Hefty Hanna', and she tried to ignore it, but she was visibly shaken. Until she was fifteen, she would throw up to become skinnier, and she eventually stopped a few months after her fifteenth birthday. She missed Ali, and sometimes she wished Ali was there to tell her how proud she was that Hanna became skinny. Her father never contacted her, and tried to buy her affection with expensive gifts, but stubborn Hanna refused to let herself be swayed. The "A" texts started on Ali's funeral, and she and her other friends were reunited. Hanna had to endure silent torture every day, but could never tell anyone about her tormentor. They were in a financial crisis, her mother and her, and they almost lost their house. She was hit by "A"s car soon after, but she was okay. She soon found out her mother had stolen money from the bank, and "A" tortured her with that knowledge. She befriended Caleb Rivers, and soon invited him to stay at her house. They started dating soon after. Hanna saw life as what it really was: a system of checks and balances that could easily tip one way or the other. Caleb seemed to understand her, and he showed her it was okay to sometimes let go of her control. Her friends warned her about Caleb, but she refused to believe them. She later found out he was spying on her for Jenna and she was angry at him, and angry at herself, but most of all: she was hurt. He left, and Hanna tried to move on, but she couldn't. Lucas brought him back, and she later forgave him. She found out "A" was Mona, and that really hurt her, and a part of her can't believe that one of her best friends would put her through so much. She recently broke up with Caleb, because she wouldn't tell him that "A" was back, but they got back together later. She is currently keeping their relationship a secret from "A", her mom, and her friends.

Hanna Marin is straight and madly in love with Caleb Rivers, whom she is in a secret relationship with. She believes that everyone deserves a happy ending, and believes in fairy tale kind of romance. She often plays matchmaker in her circle of friends

Toby is known as a stranger to everyone in Rosewood. Well, not much of a stranger, everyone knows who he is. Of course, everyone thinks he's the one who killed Alison. Everywhere he goes he is shunned upon by everyone besides Spencer. No one really takes the time to get to know who Toby is, but if they did they would know that he is gentle and willing to do anything for his loved ones. He was sent to Military school for something he didn't even do. He is also suspicious of Spencer's friends and won't stop until he finds out what there up to.

"You can see me clearly, can't you?"

Well the first thing you would probably catch is his smile. His smile isn't perfect, but it is really cute. His lips are also you thing you would catch. They look so soft and warm if you look at them. Most guys have brown eyes, but not Toby. His eyes are a cute little blue color that you could spot from a mile away. His hair is also a thing everyone loves. Its mostly his facial area everyone loves, but doesn't bother to look at anymore.

"You want to know more about me? Well, I suppose I could tell you some things."

He is very gentle when you meet him. He is known as a stranger to everyone in Rosewood. Everyone thinks he killed Allison because of the tattoo on his side "9/01 free at last," but it really was the day he ended the relationship with Jenna. He wishes everyone can understand his, but since no one really talks to him he can't explain. If you are one of his loved ones, you will definitely be protected by him. His one and only love of his life is Spencer and he hopes this relationship won't end.

"You're serious?! Fine, I'll tell you a little, as long as you leave me alone after that."

Toby Cavanaugh is Jenna's older step-brother. Jenna is still seemingly interested in Toby, who wants nothing to do with her. Alison and her friends believed that Toby used to spy from his tree house window into Alison's window. One time, Alison and her friends tried to get revenge at Toby, but ended up blinding his stepsister, Jenna Marshall. The girls refer to the incident as "The Jenna Thing." Toby maintains his innocence in Alison's murder, and Spencer even dates Toby. Toby has a tattoo commemorating September 1, the day he ended his relationship with Jenna. Later, the girls discover Toby’s tattoo – "9/01 Free at Last," presumably memorializing the date Alison disappeared. Making them believe he may have something big to do with her disappearance. In earlier episodes, Toby had been one of the suspects to be "A."

He is in a strong relationship with Spencer Hastings.
