general description : les is the tall, stoic-looking gentleman that nobody really wants to mess with, not because he looks overly-strong but more because he has that look of authority that peoples' instinct advises them to avoid. with his amazingly straight posture and clean cut hair, people seem to trust him, even if he isn't in uniform, if they need help and there isn't a policeman in uniform around. he usually wears a confident smirk when not working but still keeps the authorative pose.
les' hair is naturally very scruffy so it takes a while to tame it so that he looks professional, although he can hide it under his guard hat if he needs to. his hair is dark brown but it goes a dark gold-ish colour when exposed to sunlight for a long time. les' eyes are a very pale shade of blue, which look very strange especially with such dark hair. his jawline is quite low so he does have the classic, masculine scottish look that makes him such a good, fear-inducing prison guard.
clothing style : les' style outside of work is clean casual; he does wear baggy jeans but the jeans are always new and are never washed out and old. he only owns one pair of joggers, and they're what he uses for things like painting or when he's ill. along with his baggy jeans les wears a plaid shirt, always with the top button undone.
while working les wears the usual work uniform with the shirt tucked into his trousers and buttoned up straight to the top button. he does his tie in the windsor fashion so that he is always seen as a superior officer and not just some kid fresh out of school or college who happened across the job.

general personality : although les comes across as the strict overlord who immediately judges the prisoners the minute they walk through the door he's actually the complete opposite. he gives everyone a chance and will often talk to the prisoners to hear their story, since he knows that everyone had a reason for what they did. to anyone who turns out to be unco-operative he turns into the harsh prison guard that every jail-setting story has.

general history : les was born on the twenty-seventh of september, twenty-six years ago. he was born in the house that his parents lived in, since his dead-beat father was too lazy to drive les' mother to the hospital which was actually pretty near their house. les was the first of liz and brian's four children, the next ones being the twins then with their only daughter ending up as the youngest. being the oldest, les always look responsibility for his younger siblings, resulting in him getting a beating for anything that they did. his mother hated brian but she couldn't do anything about it. no one could. or, at least, any who could didn't really care. his life was difficult at home but it got even worse at school.
les was top of the class at school, ever since primary one. one would thing that the other kids in his class would see him as someone to look up to, like his siblings did. this was certainly not the case. ever since he started answering questions in class the other kids picked on him, called him a nerd and beat him up. so, not only would he arrive at school with a black eye or some similar injury, he'd go home with one too. the teachers tried to keep the major bullies away from him but they couldn't do anything. the bullies' parents didn't care and the school was too low on funding to expel any of them. one day when les was in primary five he was telling his mum about all the horrible things that the kids had done to him, like he usually did. the thing which was unusual was that his dad walked past and heard everything that he said. les expected to get hit for being weak but the complete opposite happened; brian told him that no one was allowed to put a finger on his kids. then, quick as a flash, he left the house. about an hour later, les' mum got a phone call from the police department saying that brian had been taken into custody for serious assault.
although les thought that it was it was a bit extreme, for the first time in his life he was actually quite happy that brian was his dad. none of the other dads did anything like this and the other dads hit their kids as well. the entire community was made up of child abusers but les seemed to be the lucky one. a few years later, when les was in his first year of high school, brian was let out of prison. brian never hit any of his kids again and had returned as a completely different person. they were all still uneasy about him but he stayed as the new brian and so les and his siblings have still kept contact with him, even after moving out.
