"I didn't do anything to her," Niall said through his teeth. "She didn't even break her leg, we were just kidding." He crossed his arms over his chest. "We were playing hide-and-seek, and she tripped. She walked the whole way back; I just carried her through the door. I didn't know girls couldn't take a joke," he said, the last sentence quieter than the rest.

Carter narrowed her eyes, clenching and unclenching her fists. "I have it in good authority to massacre you, for the record. That wasn't funny! At all! How could you do that? Do you have any respect for anyone but yourself? You are so inconsiderate!" She let off on a rant of words, eyes ablaze. After a moment, she sighed and dropped her head. "I'm sorry." She said softly, barely able to hear herself even. "I was just worried."
