Alec slowly started to calm down but his body was still tense with anger. He watched as his step-father ever so slowly began to get the message and backed up walking away from them. With a small sigh of relief he reached for Sydney’s hand and laced their fingers together. He didn’t want to walk up to the casket. He wanted it to be empty. He wanted his mother to stand behind him and scare him saying it was all a joke. Alec didn’t want to see her pale, lifeless. He squeezed Sydney’s hand gently and moved out of the way as a few more people started coming in. He didn’t know half the people who’d just walked in. The only one he could just barely recognize was their own neighbor. He was slightly surprised that she’d come and was even more amazed she’d left her kids alone. He slowly pulled his hand from Sydney’s and walked over to his neighbor to carry on a small conversation that didn’t last long. He smirked slightly at something she had said. “You’re house may be a wreck when you get back,” he said, knowing that it probably was true. Alec watched his neighbor nod and laugh. “You’ll be missed, dear,” she said quietly, rubbing his shoulder before passing by him. He swallowed his emotions and walked back over to Sydney, leading her to some chairs. The room was starting to fill up and he didn’t want to be in the happy laughing atmosphere. Alec knew though that soon enough the room they were sitting in would be filled up with people and he’d be forced to listen to their conversations too. It amazed him how people could be having “private” conversations yet talked so loud that people all the way across the world could hear them. He smirked slightly and watched people walk in and out of the doors.
