Scout woke up and stretched from where she'd overslept in her hotel room. Though she wasn't exactly excited to reunite with the classmates she'd barley been close to, she was already here. Scout took a brief shower before debating her outfit. She'd decided to just wear two nametags: one with her real name, and one with her old one. It would hopefully help to deal with any confusion, though she felt that there wasn't really a way to avoid it. She'd also packed her pronoun pins, as well as her jacket with several pride patches on it. A part of Scout wondered how they would react to her coming out to them, what their reactions would be. She wouldn't have been surprised to get less than accepting comments, but at this point, she didn't care. What did their opinions matter anyways? She had her family and friends back home that knew who she was and loved her for it. She didn't owe her former classmates a darn thing. Still, she felt nervousness fluttering in her belly as she left the hotel.
But she was armed with her 'war paint', and that brought her confidence. She had her prized jacket with every patch she'd collected, headphones blaring her favorite music, and tshirt with her band logo on it. If she was being honest, she was hoping a little bit that someone might comment on the tshirt. Though she and the band weren't even close to being as big as some of the stars, like Benji or Blaise, they were going to make it one day. Besides, none of them were in it for the fame. Scout and her love of music had brought her to her new family, and for that she was grateful.
The park was a short distance from the hotel, and it was a quick walk. She wandered around the park listening to music through her headphones as she rolled around the sidewalks in her heelies. She couldn't help but marvel at how much things had stayed the same while still changing. They'd repaved the sidewalks, but as she rolled up to the same old planter in the corner of the park, she was still proud to find her name etched into the wood near the wall. It was nice to see that, as many marks as Glydie had left on her throughout her youth, the marks she'd left on it were still there.

Thomas continued to read his book, having only gotten slight snatches of sleep throughout the night. A few stops had passed, and he let out a yawn as he reminded himself to get some coffee when they reached Glydie. No, here on the train it was much too loud and public. Sure, he was tired, but he'd worked longer hours at the office on much less sleep than this. He'd be fine once he got some caffeine in him. Still, he found that he was jumpy, startling at every other occupant or unexpected noise. This was no different when the woman across from him sat up from where she'd fallen asleep. He glanced up at her and nodded politely. "Good morning to you as well." He felt somewhat rude not saying anything else, but surely he'd come off as prying and nosey if he asked something. He checked his watch, and let out a soft breath of relief. They'd be fine. The train would arrive just on time to get to the ceremony, or whatever it was. Was ceremony the right word? Event? He didn't know. But the sooner he could be back to work, the better.
