Yes, the actual thing is private. That doesn't mean girls can't share experiences. It's helpful for those that haven't started yet or those that have started and want to share symptoms, side effects and overall lamenting.

As you get older you find out more and more that your period is just another part of life, and people talk about them all the time. That thread can help younger girls who are still emberressed to talk about it with their friends or family etc. to know if something is wrong and for advice. It's nothing bad ^^

Periods are just another part of growing up. Being able to talk about them with other girls can help calm nerves, assure people it's really nothing to worry about, etc. xD;

It's like how women talk about pregnancy all the time, their relationships, school, whatever.

If it offends you, don't pay attention to it.

As it has been said, the area is clearly labelled for the general age of the members there and contains mature topics that are not suitable for the rest of the forum.

If you don't feel comfortable about that area, don't go into it.

Eventually you or any other member may need help regarding periods or any other type of life situation, and they might find this area useful for things they are worried about or too afraid to ask someone face to face.

Also I think the topic you are talking about has been going since 2009, if there was something wrong with it by now I don't think it would be there :X
