Okay, i noticed this when i was going to do a trade.

these two cats are from two different months. is there a reason for this?

They were up for more than one month. :] Can't remember exactly for how long they were up, but certainly for several months, mine is from late 09'.

Yes, they're the same pet. :]
Also as an addition, I believe they were taken off from adoption when the new cat lineart came, when it was the 2nd birthday of Chicken Smoothie in April 2010.
