Need some help with organizing!

Hi!

I've been experimenting with organizing my pets for quite a while now, as of late I've separated by species or different variants, usually labeling them as something along the lines of "Cats I" "Cats II" and "PPS Cats" What do you guys do to organize your pets?

Do you also organize pets that are up for trade? I've been doing that but I feel like it looks a little messy to me, although I don't know what most people are looking for when they trade? Do you all typically go for rarity, or just base it on your wishlist and don't necessarily care what kinds of groups they are separated in? What helps YOU? I'd love some feedback or just new ways to organize!

i derive the most joy from viewing the majority of my pets in dreamie category / aesthetic or theme groups... for example i have a group for horror pets, winter pets, autumn pets, valentines pets etc. i think theyre really nice to flip through. species groups just feel too jumbled up to me, and a little messy looking in your group menu!

i do have species groups for species im trying to complete. individuals that fit in a theme go in their theme though bc why wouldnt i want to see a favorite species sprinkled in my themed groups : )

pets for trade are organized only by rarity/type. i have four trade groups: rare/list C$ shop, list/store, rare fodder, then EUC and below. that's how i like things to be organized when im trading other people!

I think the first question would be if you want it to be sorted by pet type or by release time of the pet?

For me- I generally I go with the release time of the pet. 2013/14 (my old haydays) and any month since I returned at the end of November are the pets I sorted into monthly and event folders to better keep track what I own and what I missed while I have just a general year folder for any other year. Though the goal would be to combine all into one folder should I have a year finished.

For general sorting I have three extra folders outside of that- one for pets that are very precious to me (for various reasons), one where I put my dressed up pets in to quickly find them and one folder for store pets.

Otherwise I have any duplicate I am happy to trade in an extra folder so I can lock the rest away from trades.

The question about the trade groups is a good one. If I see one giant group with all trade pets I am less likely to trade someone. I don't mind how they are organized, but I really prefer if my trade partner has some organization with labeled trade groups. It's great to have trade rules to match those groups, such as "group B I will be pick about".

I am currently trying to get rid of certain pets so I'm looking for anything that catches my eye.Most of these pets are not on my wishlist because people kept sending offers of them for my regular trade fodder. Putting in my rules that I didn't want those trades was not helping, so I removed them. The only pets on my wishlist are hoards, 7 pets I'm missing or things I'm okay trading my fodder for.

So it's good to have organized trade groups. I prefer to see them organized by rarity or year, but species is okay too. Something is better than nothing. It's easy to organize by rarity if you can use this extension:

There are lots of ways people organize their pets! I commonly see people sort by species, date, rarity, themes, even by pet artist. Many people have special groups for favorites, dressups, hoards, or particular collections that are sorted separately from the rest of their pets.

For me, I have a couple favorites groups, hoard groups, and special collections groups (e.g. one particular large 2nd/3rd gen family of dogs that I like.) The rest of my permanent collection pets I sort by species, and my trade groups are sorted by rarity. I personally get more annoyed by having too many groups than I do having multiple species in the same group, so my larger collections groups are lumped into more general categories (e.g. instead of having separate groups for chickens, chameleons, snakes, and dragons, I keep all of those together in a single hatchery group). I also keep my smaller hoards in the same group for this reason—I do 20-pet hoards, so 1 page per hoard works nicely without inflating my group count.

I don't have particularly strong feelings on how people sort their trade groups personally, since I am only ever looking for wishlist pets. I agree with Wookieinmashoo that it is helpful to trading partners to sort out any pets you have specific criteria for into separate trade groups (e.g. if you take C$ offers on some pets but not others, it is helpful to sort them into separate groups). I have also found that putting specific trading preferences into group names generally means people follow those preferences better—they might skim, ignore, or forget preferences listed in your trade rules, but be reminded of them while putting a trade offer together and seeing the group name.

It's ultimately up to you and what suits your needs and aesthetic!
