CS Questions

Postby Piranhafish22 » Tue Sep 30, 2025 10:45 am

Hey! Im a long time user of this site although it’s not as frequent any more. I have a couple of questions that I couldn’t find in other forum posts. Theres been lots of changes over the years but also questions I’ve thought about since I started that I just left a mystery.

1.) How does the site make it so the pets are automatically released during roll over at midnight

2.) how is rarity generated/calculated, like how does the site know to only release a certain number of an outcome or is it at random.

3.) Is there a counter for an exact number of outcomes released like ok 200 of this outcome will be released and 500 of this one and is there a way to know how many of one pet is on the site

4.) how difficult/intense is coding to make the site as smooth and put together as it is? Did the website use a template or was this all of Nick’s independent work

5.) What algorithm flags users that are “cheating” or have multiple accounts

6.) I remember years ago CS had some merch drop like stickers. I’d love to see this come back, will it ever???!!!

7.) what program is used to serve as template to design all the pets or create new lines, and how much in advanced is a litter theme discussed among artists before release

8.) what does Tess and Nick do aside from run this website like where are they and all the long term staff in life now, has there been rough patches in terms of staying motivated and dedicated to running this site?

9.) is CS lucrative due to CS dollars or is it just a bit of side money coming in

Sorry if some of these are too personal or far fetched I never wanted to ask about it all but finally decided to. Thank you all in advanced

I'll do my best!

1) Artists upload their finished pets to the site, and someone (usually Simon) will list them to grow to the next growth stage on a certain day. The site then will automatically update the images of those pets to that next stage come rollover

2) Completely random! Though sometimes an artist will indicate that they'd like a certain outcome to be rarer than others (think pps or pets like the golden gatcha) and the odds can be tweaked.

3) Nope nothing like that! And no there isn't a way to know how many of each pet is on the site, and its not something that we'll be implementing

4) From what I understand a lot of it is automatic, and Nick is the one who coded all of it. I think we might use the base code for the forums but that's very far out of my knowledge.

5) That's a Sorren Fey question, though I doubt that we'd reveal that since it might make it easier for people to bypass our systems.

6) Unfortunately most likely not. The cost of upkeep for a service like that is quite large, and the entire team is made up of volunteers. Guaranteeing quality of products while also servicing the many countries our users come from just isn't something we can realistically do at the moment. It was most likely only done in the past because there were far fewer users, as well as the fact that Tess herself packed up orders and sent them out by hand.

7) No template or anything! We have the base lines and then our artists just have fun with it! Litters are usually 1-2 artists who will just create it between themselves, but events are a whole staff discussion where we go over themes, interesting designs, what has been done before, things like that.

8) That would be an individual question for all of them! For me, I find a lot of fulfillment from my job and I get a lot of intrinsic motivation from seeing the community continue to create and have fun with pets, art, and the forums.

9) I don't think we'd ever release the details of this, but I do know that the cost of c$ is what keeps the servers up and running. This isn't a small site and takes up a bit of server space (a reason why we limit forum threads from being no more than 900 pages). The money the site generates goes back into upkeep!
