HELP! VIRUS FROM CS!

Postby Disgustedorite » Tue Mar 15, 2011 7:19 am

Some...THING...just tried to download a virus. This used to happen a LOT, and now it's back. It brought me to the obvious fake thing here and is trying to download something to my computer. I know it's a fake because I use windows 7, and it's showing a windows XP thing (I should know, my dad used to work for windows, but now he works for E-Bay). Screenshot:

AVG is so fake! What do I do? Can you stop CS from having redirects to it? Can I get Nick's help on making a program that learns about new viruses so that it doesn't need to be updated? (I started working on it a few weeks after I first joined CS on March 17, 2009...) Okay, maby the last one is too hard, but this is a problem! A real one! It is on DeviantArt, too. It fails. It stinks. I once somehow got this downloaded back during the Vista days, and it eventually led to me getting windows 7.....SO...what do I do?

You will never get a virus from CS. You must be getting it from another site.

Wait.... so what antivirus do you currently use?
And you cannot 'teach' a program what kinds of the many new viruses that are put out by humans daily. My advice would be to pay a little money and have an actual antivirus, not one you made yourself. I use Panda and have had few problems, though I can't recommend beyond that. Maybe others have an idea on the current good ones.
My boyfriend uses Eset and it's very invasive on his harddrive and CPU.
Norton used to be a good one, but nowadays not only does it get several false positives but it fails to recognize some viruses because the updates are too slow to come. (Roommate has been having issues)
Wouldn't recommend AVG either. It's about as effective as a piece of origami paper to stop bullets.

I have Eset. Only downside I have with it, is that it becomes quite annoying and very frustrating to remove if the need arises.

Also, you cannot get a Virus from CS. You can however get viruses from deviantArt. Have you been visiting there recently?

AVG is not that great, imo. As Fire said, it's practically useless as paper stopping bullets. You could get Avast and Malaware Bytes. 2 very good programs to get rid of viruses and malware. Both are free and easy to use.

And besides this point, CS itself will not give you viruses. It is entirely possible you have popups loading with viruses, or perhaps are viewing/clicking links from someones signature that is flagging/downloading viruses without you knowing.

Also worms and trojans, ouch. You need to get rid of those asap.

Haven't had any problems with AVG so far. Then again, I don't go many dangerous places.

I have noticed my computer is running more slowly though. :/

AVG used to be good, but has become almost like a virus itself in the past few years.

Might I recommend you Defrag the hard drive your operating system is installed on. This may help the PC to run a bit faster.

Ending unwanted programs on start up via task manager can help, and removing games you never play as well.

You could be possibly getting something from an ad that appears when you view certain pages. While the ads are hosted by Google, some of them use things such as Adobe Reader without you knowing. I've had problems with advertisements on deviantART in the past, but have never had them here.

I am currently using McAfee, because it came free with my family's Comcast package. It's proved to be better than Norton, to be completely honest with you.

I wish you luck in resolving your problem!

CS doesn't have any viruses to give you, if you're getting redirected to that page while browsing CS (and with no other windows open) then your computer must already be infected with something.

You need to get a real virus scanner, try the (real) AVG (free edition) http://free.avg.com/au-en/get-basic-protection

Tess (I cannnot believe I'm really talking to you!), I would need my dad's permission. Also, I think my sister kinda just tried to commit suicide, so talking to dad wouldn't be easy. And FSS would block it. Oh, and worms cannot get into my computer. All things are blocked from entering. You need to say SPECIFICALLY that you want to let it in. Ordinary viruses are usually tracked before one can say...i dunno. I never download stuff, so Trojans can't really get in. My computer is secure enough WITHOUT antivirus software. I never trust that stuff anyway, after what happened with that thing for vista.....

*pant pant* I run out of energy just typing this.

Viruses and worms don't work like that; that is why they are so hard to detect and get rid of. You don't choose which ones enter your computer and which ones don't. Your anti-virus software simply blocks them, and unfortunately (in many cases) a virus is not detected and can harm your computer. Anything can get into your computer, really, if your anti-virus software doesn't detect it in time. :c
