Each year in September there is a staff litter where each staff member designs one of the final outcomes. They are dogs and you can adopt around 40 newborns of the staff litter.

There are different ways to get rare pets. Sometimes monthly outcomes like two of the October rats will be rare (but this doesn't happen often). Event pets are more likely to become rare, especially pets you get for tokens during the Easter, summer and Halloween event. You can get rares by trading with other players as well. Each December 18th, old and rare/very rare/omgsr pets from previous years are re-released. This way you can get a pet which was originally released in 2010 for example. New players can't get them to prevent cheating. Unfortunately some players will try to scam others who don't know the value of these re-released pets, so make sure to wait until your pet is fully grown and ask in the Fair Trade Thread if you want to trade it.
