there is a way to be notified when there is a new post on a topic, however it notifies you by email. this can be enabled by clicking "subscribe topic" at the bottom of the site page.

as for the message issue, did you try clicking on the message as well? if it's not important, you can delete it too. that should resolve the issue.

You can change your default post settings by going to the User Control Panel > Board Preferences > edit posting defaults ( Forum/ucp.php?i=prefs&mode=post). That way it will automatically notify you about replies to any topic you post on, by email. The check mark will be on by default, but you can remove it if you want if you don't want emails about that topic.

Or, if you don't want notifications most of the time, you can just do it manually!

It is also good to note you can remove topics from your notification list here: Forum/ucp.php?i=main&mode=subscribed

for the message issue, are you referring to the messages button showing you have new messages but all of yours are marked as read? if so, your inbox is likely full and cannot receive new messages. instead of deleting these messages, though, they are stored elsewhere for you to receive later when you have room in your inbox. to make room, you can create folders (which can house 200 messages each with five being your limit, i believe) and move some of your messages into those or simply delete some old messages. to allow the new messages to come through, all you have to do is click the little button at the top of your screen by "new pm."
