What are custom items and pets?

I’ve seen some players with pets that have the rarity, “custom”, and other are saying their custom items aren’t for trade. What are these? Thanks in advance!

Some users, namely staff, can have custom pets. These are (generally) unique pets that only they can own (See Tess's Avian. I'd assume custom items work in a similar fashion but I've never seen them.

I've heard rumors that custom pets are tradeable and that the owner can trade them away, though it'd be pretty taboo as its pretty much their reward for being staff members.

The biggest thing to note is that custom pets are not a public feature; pretty much only staff (and ex-staff) can have them.

Re: The post above - Custom pets are technically tradeable, and in the past there's been quite a few cases of people gifting a custom of theirs to another member. (Or temporarily "borrowing" them for fun)
Trading or selling them for actual profit, however, is inappropriate. Customs are given as gifts to their original owners and aren't regular site pets, so there's a difference between gifting your custom to a dear friend, or trying to sell it to someone for high value.
Most users wouldn't be very inclined to trade their customs off to begin with, though, as they often depict their original characters, real life pets or the like.^^

And yes, custom items are pretty much the same as the pets - unique item designs that were never released to anyone but their recipient^^ Off the top of my head a prominent example are some people's moose plushies.
