tokens?

(just today) every time i click on the thing hat gives you tokens, it says “the release could not be found. go back and try again.” why??

Did you accidentally double-click on the banner? That message shows up when you do, though in that case you'll still get a token (food or a seedling) as usual.

actually it only happens if i’m renaming a pet group and there’s a banner there

As Piefan says, it happens when the request to click through to the page that says "You found a..." is sent twice - either by an accidental double click or another cause like your internet. It is nothing to worry about though - if your timer resets, then an item has been rewarded to you. (:
